Far from the flying city of Honestatis a small fishing ship was out doing its thing, hoping to bring in a big haul with some night flying. A simple Tiny Class ship, only fifty foot long and twenty wide, made of a the typical lightweight steel plated with bronze for protection against the elements and held in the air by three large hydrogen gas bags secured to the ship with thick metal ropes and bars. The thing was clearly not designed for comfortable residence for most of it was made up of storage and cargo areas for holding as much produce as possible to make sure they got their money's worth from a trip.

Its sixty foot long net arms were fully extended, reaching out from the ship over the cloud, the tight mesh net hanging down and dropping out of sight into the depths of the huge cloud, trailing like two massive scoops collecting up whatever was in the cloud as the water vapour passed through it like a sieve leaving a slight indentation in the cloud behind the boat.
But what, you might be wondering to yourself, could these ponies possibly be fishing for in a cloud several miles above the sea?. Well, I'll tell you. Cloud Fish, obviously.

The Cloud Fish is a descendent of the Flying Fish. Having gotten fed up with oceans the fish took to the increased cloud mass, quickly adapting to flying through the thick clouds of New Equestria. Their wing-like fins became larger, more useful for flight, their gills evolved to take in the cloud vapour instead of water, their tails got larger and more effective for propulsion and tapping into the natural Pegasus magic to actually swim in clouds effectively.
A tasty little fish that fetched a good price at the markets, if a little difficult to catch, what with them not acting like conventional, down to sea fish
The way to catch them? They act like moths, and are drawn to light. So, in the centre of each net was a powerful light which made the cloud around them light up like a beacon, while the ship itself was flying in darkness with only the quite frankly very bright light of the huge moon to light the way. This was the best tactic for catching Cloud Fish, even if it didn't always get results.

The ship glided along slowly with the limited light, pushed through the air by its twin propellers at the back of its boat like body, the prow cutting through the cloud like it was a syrupy water, globs of cloud floating away in the boat's wake. The crew meandered about quietly in the near darkness, waiting to get something done, some tinkering with stuff to keep the ship going strong, slight adjustments of ropes and levers here and there, most just sitting around thinking of home. The captain was focused on his task, steering the ship confidently and with great experience of spots of turbulence and other aerial hazards, over the the vast landscape of cloud softly glowing in the moonlight and the light from the nets. The only sounds were the propellers beating the air slowly and the occasional creak of the ship.

But something else saw the light of the nets that wasn't a fish. Something much bigger, metal, with cannons aimed at the smaller fishing boat and much more predatory in nature.
A Pirate Ship, down on its luck and desperate. A horrible combination for those in their way.

The captain just noticed it appear on the edge of their limited radar and shouted for his crew to take cover when the first shot rang out with a loud boom, wrecking the tranquillity of the peaceful night and the hull of the unarmed fishing boat while its poor crew scrambled for cover. Chaos set in as the pirate ship kept up the assault, bombarding its prey and tearing holes in its weak armour, making the crew panic and franticly run around trying to do something to stay alive.
The crew of the fishing boat quickly ended up doing the only thing they could do, try to run. One fishing net arm was folded up quickly, the ponies desperately working at the system of pulleys that controlled it., its nets empty of anything, while the other was left to drag in the cloud for a moment longer. This allowed the little ship to turn sharply, and as soon as it faced away from the pirates and both arms were retracted it took off over the cloud as fast as its little engine could take it.

But it was nowhere near fast enough. The pirate ship easily kept up, firing round after round of cannonballs after the fleeing ship, the triumphant cries of the pirates bridging the gap between the two ships as well as the lumps of metal sent hurtling at them. But then something strange happened. The pirates stopped shooting and their shouts turned to ones of fear, seeming to become more focused on overtaking the fishing boat rather than trash it. When the crew of the fishing ship looked at the cloud behind the pirates it became very clear why this change of attitude had occurred.

The cloud seemed to be giving chase, rising up slightly and at speed, like something was travelling just below the surface, forcing the cloud out of its way and up. But whatever it was, it was big. Huge. Whatever it was completely dwarfed both the fishing ship and the pirates. A wall of light shone through the cloud from near the back of the mound, illuminating both the smaller ships in its sight for a few moments until...

BOOM

Something in the cloud exploded, and a huge cannonball flew out that was at least a foot and a half across, trailing water vapour like a comet as it spun through the air. It struck the pirate ship hard, making the entire back half cave in on itself. Seconds later it erupted into flames as its engine fractured and exploded. The cloud swallowed the burning wreckage as it fell, the only indication of its passing the swirling dip in the cloud and the fading sounds of the ship burning up with the odd crack and scream.

Just as suddenly as it turned up the rising mass of swirling cloud faded away and collapsed back into itself, the lights disappearing like a giant closing its eye.
As the crew of the fishing ship let out a collective sigh of relief that they would live to see another day, and their families, the captain watched the radar with concern. Something was filling the screen as it passed underneath them, their saviour, whatever it was, moving on now that it was no longer needed. For a few moments the radar was a solid mass of light before the thing finally passed. Leaving a one of the sailors in charge of the navigation the bushy bearded captain retired to his small quarters to have a cup of tea and calm his old heart after that near death experience. But he was curious about something, so, as his small kettle boiled he checked his maps. By lining up the direction... Whatever it was, was going against his map and calculating the movement of towns the old captain guessed its destination.

The flying merchant city Liberalitas, the crossroad of everything in New Equestria and some said the best place to find an 'Adventure'.
If that colossus was heading there, they were no doubt going to get one.
