(Leo here, looking for a partner to practice combat with. I have never done combat before so somebody patient and willing to teach would be preferable. I'll be using Rain Flare/Blade. A lunar thestral guard with two minds. He has metal spikes that go over the claws of his wings and long-sword along with standard issue lunar guard armor. If you're interested just respond I guess.)

(Pssst! Leo! I'll take you on. I could use some practice myself as is despite being a veteran in the group. Got three OC's to pick from, one Avatar that's restricted but registered, or I could always just take you on with a generic character for general practice. What do you say? o3o )

(Okay, seeing as we've discussed the main details on Skype, let's proceed...)

(("Olympus Coliseum"))

Somewhere in a realm between worlds, a peculiar being was sought out to be battled against. The being had chosen to replicate a large circular coliseum, easily 100 yards of open space in the center where the dirt, although fertile, had been pressed down evenly for initial use. Right in the middle of this coliseum, a puddle of swirling silver and sapphire idly waited for the arrival of the challenger and trainee, making bubbles that popped into musical notes to pass the time.

The sky was clear, the sun was high up in the middle of the day, the winds were calm, and a portal roughly 5 yards away from the puddle quietly pulsed as it eventually would allow the visitor to come through from wherever he was from, safely of course. It was now a matter of Rain Flare showing up at his leisure, and making his terms known to begin the lessons... Which if he read the sign that was left for him nearby that read 'Just state what you want right away, AND IGNORE THE TURTLES BY ANY MEANS!!' might likely clue him in to what needed to be done.

A grey thestral emerges from the portal, clad in the standard uniform of a lunar guard with a sword strapped to his belt. He looks about himself upon entering the arena, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. He catches sight of the sign and rolls his shoulders after reading it, standing at attention and speaking loudly, "We are Rain, and we have to come to test our mettle against the being who dwells here! Make your presence known so that we may begin our training!"

Rain Flare continues to observe the battlefield after calling out his opponent. The thestral notices the musical puddle of silver liquid in the middle of the coliseum and cocks his head curiously at it, taking a single step forward to get a better look at the alien substance.

The puddle soon stopped blowing bubbles, and eventually spoke in a soft echoing voice. "We...? Two minds is it? I wonder... Do you think twice as fast, or half as much each...? Let's find out..." The puddle soon took form as it darkened in color and became a more familiar looking material of clay. The result was a similarly sized pegasus shaped opponent, but where its eyes would be, they shone a deep electric blue as it gazed upon Flare. It extended both arms forward, and from them a lance and a shield of clay also came to be as it hardened. "As for who I am... That will be revealed in due time. Just know that I will be your opponent for this session." Its mouth never moved, yet the voice clearly came from it, but it was neither through sound nor telepathy that he could communicate. "Whenever you're ready, come at me at your leisure." He stood in a defensive pose with the shield on his right arm up front, while the lance looked like it was ready to be tossed.

Meanwhile, the coliseum became more lively as several dozen turtles waddled and walked from below the bleachers and sat upon them over at Flare's right side, and all began to wave at the duo about to fight before a small band of five began to play drums and trumpets for fanfare and entertainment.

The thestral grinds his teeth as the cool headed Flare is replaced by the more irratble Blade at the jab to their intelligence. "Think you're a clever puddle a' plasma, don'tcha', " he mutters to himself. Despite his annoyance, he can't keep his eyes from widening slightly in awe as the creature takes on a more recognizable form. He shakes his head to regain his composure, cracking his neck and rolling his shoulders before drawing his blade and getting into a combat stance, his right leg forward bent slightly at the knee, his left behind him a bit and bent in a similar fashion. He holds the sword in front of himself with both hands around the grip, elbows tucked by his sides and back arched forward slightly. The thestral's wings splay out behind him, the metal encased claws glinting brutally in the light.

Blade catches movement out of the corner of his right eye and shifts his gaze in that direction. Upon seeing the turtles coming in is posture slouches some as he lets out an incredulous sigh. You have got to be kidding me...

Shaking his head again, he fixes his posture and returns his attention to his opponent, making not the lance as a potential projectile and deciding to let the creature make the first move.

By the time Blade starts turning his attention back to the clay being fully, the sign from earlier had now become part of the spearhead, and it was flying at high speed right towards his torso. It wasn't that Blade was slow, but that the opponent was incredibly fast in performing that particular action as it once again communicated with Blade. "What part of 'ignore the turtles' did you not get!?" Whether or not Blade could react against it in time, or stay coherent long enough to get the full message at least, the improvised weapon would not kill him either way; But thick foam that was half as tall and wide of a square as he was, being pushed by a long clay rod at high speed, was very likely to hit fairly hard even with armor. Another spear would already be in the being's grasp immediately after tossing the first one, pose the same as earlier.

(Tip: The lesson here is very simple. Avoid distractions in battle. This applies to both regular events as well as RPing as your character may leave itself vulnerable that way. Granted, it IS up to the player to also choose to purposely allow for something like that to happen if it's something the character would do. After all, you can probably still make up for the blunder. If you're as experienced in other kinds of RPs as you claim, this is a cakewalk of a lesson, but worth remembering for sure. For this session, all my Avatar's warnings in character will not be misleading. So pay attention to what might seem like a hint of any sort. o3o )

"Gah!" The thestral exclaims in surprise at the sight of a sign attached to a lance hurling towards his body. He quickly dives to the side to avoid the projectile, tucking into a roll and being careful to keep his blade away from himself to avoid accidental injuries. He comes up on one knee, immediately pushing himself into the air with the single leg and then giving his leathery wings a hard flap, sending him air-born. The thestral flaps again to give himself a little more air before holding his wings straight out to either side and banking around back towards his opponent. He tucks his wings to his sides and dives towards the ground, tucking into another role as he lands and coming up with his sword thrusting towards the clay creature, the blow aimed to go up under where its ribs would be, assuming it has a skeleton, and puncture its lung and heart, assuming it has organs.

The turtles off on the sidelines applauded Blade's reaction and cheered the fight onwards. Their cheering would only heighten further once the odd tossed weapon hit the far end of the coliseum and exploded in scorching flames several yards wide; It would be in Blade's best interest to avoid letting his guard down too much, nor let himself be shaken by what could have been...

In the time it took for him to fly up and make his strike, the clay being had more than enough time to watch his moves and keep its position. As Blade attempted to attack him from below at high speed, the clay one took a more rudimentary approach as he merely extended and struck the ground with the other spear he held, immediately blocking the direct path towards its torso for Blade, as well as trying to make the thestral slam its right shoulder or wing against the longer weapon, or at the very least, try to direct him towards the shield he wielded to smack him head on with it, if not to block the blade itself with it at least if Blade kept moving right at him in his likely deadly lunge.

(Tip: General rule of thumb: Lances/spears are typically longer than swords. Watch for who has the better reach by default. o3o )

The thestral curses himself for forgetting the reach advantage his opponent has. As his blow is deflected by the lance, Blade releases the sword with his right hand, letting it swing off further and shift his momentum more to the left. He lets the weight of the blade carry him and launches himself back and to the left at the same time, also extending his left wing and flapping hard once. All of this succeeded in propelling the thestral away from and to the left of the clay creature. Realizing he needs to get in closer to render his enemies weapon useless, he quickly pushes himself diagonally forward immediately after his feet hit the ground again. This puts Blade almost directly behind the creature, his sword away from it, which he quickly remedies by bring it in around in a one-handed horizontal swing at his opponents left kidney area.

Still holding onto the spear, the being of clay wasted no time in parrying the blow coming from his right with the shield on his right arm within the blade's reach. While there was a chance he might knock out the sword from Blade's grip, he was more interested in the opening that came with the parry as he swiveled in place towards Blade, dragged and raised his left leg abruptly along with some of the soil, and let out a full frontal kick right towards Blade's likely exposed chest as dirt likely struck his face. Along with the kick, the being expanded its clay wings for balance and anticipation.

Blade reflexively shuts his eyes and turns his head away as dirt is flung into his face. The creatures kick catches him in the chest piece, not doing too much damage to the thestral himself, but still knocking the wind out of him and forcing him to roll away with the force of the blow. Blade stands and spits dirt out of mouth before launching himself back into the air, twenty feet up with two powerful strokes of his clawed wings. He then lets himself fall, sword held over his head as if he is coming in for a powerful downward slash, hoping the sheer force behind it to break through his enemies guard or at least set him off balance. In reality, however, he will flap his wings again at the last minute, when the creatures shield or lance is raised to defend from above, and perform a back flip and a spin so his weapon is now aimed for the creatures belly and he will flap his wings again to propel himself toward the hopefully unprotected region.

It was at this point that the being thought to be less of a standing target and more one that could match Blade's agile movements given how quickly he recovered from the hard kick. He too flapped his clay wings after holding the spear properly once more, but only once in a single hard flap and bound to meet Blade's downward thrust with his own upward thrust with the shield at his chest and his spear arm fully extended.

Since Blace made a last moment maneuver, the being would try to counter with a maneuver of its own by holding the spear back close to him, turning his wings to allow him to turn his back on him and then flap once more, lean back while keeping his momentum rather than try to force a loop the other way, and purposely meet Blade's advance upside down and slightly downwards with tucked wings for optimal speed, ready to extend the spear at his opponent's shoulder's and back, and cover his own upper body with the shield.

(Tip: The wings ain't just for show. o3o )

Without the creature their to stop his momentum, Blade continued forward further than he had anticipated, which also took him out from under his opponent. The thestral flaps his wings again for good measure before landing and turning on his heel back towards his enemy. Blade took the same stance he had at the beginning of their fight and waits for the creature's next move.

The clay being was about to try and strike Blade from behind, but he moved out of the way faster than the reaction it meant to strike with. As Blade took position, so would the being as he swiveled in the air quickly as it opened its wings to adjust, and landed several yards away from him while staring at him. "... Hm... Perhaps things would be more interesting if we were more even with one another, no?" His spear would compress in on itself and form a gauntlet similar to Blade's, while the shield took the form of a similar clay sword; Though it was blunt, it was quite solid for striking. The being then took a stance equal to Blade's as it spread its wings, forming 'bladed' gear upon them the same as his opponent's. "Now... Show me your moves! Conquer yourself!" With a strong flap of his wings, he advanced at roughly 6 feet off the ground towards Blade, the gauntlet clenched at its chest, wings spread out fully, and the sword held back, seemingly about to make a diagonal strike against Blade; But the electric blue eyes of the being were being very observant of what the thestral would do as he closed the distance.

Blade waits until the last possible moment before jumping over the creature, aided by a flap of his wings. He would land facing away from his opponent but quickly turn to face him and dash forward, raising his sword and bringing it down in a vertical cut. If the creature turned in time to block the blow, though, he would release the sword with his right hand, letting it go off to the left, and jump at the creature with one knee raised and aimed for its gut.

Unfortunately for Blade, he would only get to execute a part of his intended actions as the moment he jumped over the clay being at the last moment, he left himself more vulnerable to the wing blades which it had more reach with on its back than the blunt sword. It would attempt to flap the wings behind it fully to try and graze his opponent's thighs and legs while looking at him as he jumped, rather than try hitting the torso where it was more likely to be hit by the opponent's sword and wings. By closing the wings upon itself this way, it quickly lost altitude, but it was ready to roll forward on the ground hard and try to get back up if the hit was successful.

(Tip: Writing more actions doesn't always mean only the end gets interrupted as you saw earlier. Each move you make may get countered or reacted against, even if it's from the very beginning. Try to avoid doing too much, and instead add in some of what else you might do if successful while keeping certain actions reasonably brief. o3o )

Blade flaps his wings again to bring himself out of the reach of his opponents. He turns around mid air and pulls his arms and wings close to his side, so that he is now falling after the creature. If he managed to catch up to it, he would tackle his enemy, hoping to slam their back into the ground.

As Blade went further up, the opponent was well on his way down ready to roll after the drop on its part. It would remain kneeled as it spread its wings sideways to the ground, ready to meet his tackle-drop with the blade extended to discourage him from doing so... though there might still be a chance for Blade to tackle his opponent anyway if he was more technical about it.

The thestral pops his wings when the creature turns on him with blade drawn, they act like a parachute, halting his forward movement and pulling him back slightly. Blade lands and gets back in his stance, his wings splayed out menacingly, though he doubts the intimidation tactic will affect the creature, it also puts them in position to be used for combat.

The being slowly stood up, taking a similar stance as Blade, not the least bit daunted by the threatening pose. It then pointed the blunt weapon right at him, and remained deathly still. It would still communicate, however. "Not bad... You're holding up well so far... Think you can keep up though? How much longer can you go on before fatigue sets in? How long will you keep reacting on time? What drives you to go on?" Still as a statue it may be, but it followed every subtle movement made by Blade rather vigilantly, looking for an opening.

Blade cringes slightly as a jolt of pain shoots through his head.
What drives us? What do we fight for? We fight for the honor we lost, for the forgiveness of those we betrayed. We fight for the night and the stars that we swore to protect. We fight for those we love, even those who don't love us back, those who are afraid of us because we love them.
He shakes his head to clear the thoughts and the pain. "I'm driven by the desire to improve my skills, the desire to win. Now enough talk, we're here to fight, not talk about why we do it."
The thestral charges the creature and make a horizontal slash for it's abdomen, but redirects the attack low for it's legs at the last instant while his left wing comes around to rack at his opponents side and back, the metal claws glinting in the light, hopefully acting as a bit of a distraction.

"Excellent! You've made your choice then!" Was all the being would say after hearing both Blade's spoken, and unspoken, words. It didn't have a mouth so to speak of, but the expression did seem to have a bit of a smile on its face as it thought of changing things up a bit as the fight went on. It decided to allow the intended sword strike, meaning that the blade would lob out one of the clay legs if it was fierce enough, but both fully would be unlikely. However, it would be struck at the same time it would go for a jump right at Blade from very up close, flaring its wings upwards and then moving its right wing downwards to try and grasp it hard under his own might, which at the moment roughly matched that of Blade.

As for the effort behind the seemingly desperate jump-grapple itself, it would still hold the blunt weapon, but it would rise its right arm all the way up, seeking to then strike the opponent's head with the hilt to knock him silly. It never once flinched nor blinked as it threw itself or received the 'wound'.

Blade was not entirely surprised when the creature gave no hint of pain as his sword sliced through its left leg, cutting it off at the mid thigh with a slightly down-curved angle. He struggles against the creature's wing as they lock together in a kind of arm wrestling match and raises his left arm block his opponents dazing blow. The thestral flips his sword in his hand so that he is now holding it upside down and slashes up with it, aiming to open the creature from crotch to chest while his right wing comes around to claw at the creatures back, though he suspects it will be blocked the same as his left.

Blade's efforts were admirable, but the clay being would not falter as it still held the first wing, and kept pressuring down with the weapon it was attempting to hit with. Its other wing would intercept the second wing attack, clashing solid clay blades with the metal ones hard. As for the rising strike from below, the being would use its remaining free arm to clasp onto Blade's unguarded throat, and pull itself in a bit more through the other limbs that managed to hold onto him already, giving it an easier time closing its legs-or what remained of one of them at least- tight closer to the base of the sword-if not the hand itself-, making it a chore to make a proper upwards cut at all under the circumstances. Regardless, the biggest problem was the clasped throat that was unguarded. "Standard guard armor doesn't protect the throat well, now does it?" Despite the struggle, the voice was as calm as calm could be. It sounded casual even.

(Tip: The standard armor for the Royal Guards really doesn't cover the neck area too well from the direct front... Unless Blade's is a custom forge? o3o )
