PostSubject: A Not So Routine Checkup   Wed Jul 05, 2017 6:57 pm

Purse Cutter staggered up the ruined remains of what might once have been a road; the small thestral's feet kept slipping as they fell into another crack she hadn't noticed, too busy staggering along and clutching her side as she walked toward she knew not where, only that it had to be far from here. The thestral's vision however blurred even before her eyes, the burning hole in her hand where she had been foolish enough to meet a sting a constant reminder that she had to hurry somewhere.

The mare hissed as she sank another dose of Med-X into herself before collapsing against a former road sign, holding herself up with it; her bright purple leather armor stood out severely against this landscape and her Stealth Boy was fried, she had to move or else risk being found again...

But even as she had that thought, her legs had no strength left to carry it out, struggling even with the sign for aid.

Off in the distance, over a drop in the road, several figures emerged.  First there was three, then more, then a few more, eight in total, including a pack brahmin.  The group walked in the opposite direction, facing towards Purse cutter.  They wore matching uniforms.  Even at a distance it was clear who they were.  Four of the figures were wearing the signature tan, padded armour of the New Canterlot Republic.  All held their rifles close to their chests and they all wore face obscuring scarfs.  Next to these individuals stood a Pegasus wearing bulkier armour than his compatriots.  A cowboy hat atop his head gave clear signal that he was a Ranger.  A pair of heavily tinted sunglasses, coupled with a similar scarf to his comrades, obscured his face completely.  A long, scoped rifle was held tightly in his hands.

In the center of the group, nearest the Brahmin, were three further individuals.  These ones were noticeably different from the others, with the stallion in the middle standing out the most.  The stallion was carrying a very large pack on his back, and had several pouches along his waist and chest.  He wore similar armour to the standard NCR troopers, though it was clearly more beefy.  On his biceps were two stark white bandages, red crosses in the center of them.  He wore a tan beret, the same red cross from his arms was on the front.  His eyes were uncovered, but his mouth and nose were covered by what seemed to be a medical mask.  Strangely though, it appeared to be made of harder materials, like metal.  It looked almost like a re-breather, but without the space for oxygen canisters.  He had a heavily modified Service Rifle in his hands, a short scope and undersling grenade launcher being the most obvious.  The two ponies at his sides would both be unicorns, one a mare and the other a stallion.  They'd be wearing the equivalent of doctor scrubs, with bits of NCR combat armour strapped on over them.

The figure in the beret stopped as he spotted the purple color of Purse's armour.  He removed a hand from his rifle and raised it into the air, palm outstretched.  The rest of the group stopped instantly and looked off towards the mare in the distance.  The soldiers raised their weapons and aimed at the mare.  The two unicorns drew pistols from side-holsters.  The beret wearing one lowered his weapon and clicked the safety off before clearing his throat.  He looked over the mare as best he could from his distance. Instantly he identified she was not in the best shape.  He shouted loudly, his voice echoing in the nearby wastelands.  "You there!  Are you alright?"

Purse Cutter rolled her eyes as she flicked open her holster and drew her revolver, aiming it unsteadily at the group. "Great... soldier boys." She grumbled to herself, trying to stand up a bit straighter so as not to seem too helpless but couldn't manage it, the venom in her veins taking it's toll far too much for such a pointless gesture given how short she was anyway.

"What the hell does it look like?!" She shouted back at the group, more out of frustration than anything; there was no realistic chance of getting away at this point after all. "If you're gonna rob me you've got about ten minutes before this sting finishes me off and I've got a bullet for each of ya..." Purse called, staggering as she forced herself with all her will to stand upright; while her left hand aimed the gun, her right hand was tightly clutched around a small package.

As Purse un-holstered her revolver the soldiers instantly reacted.  They raised their rifles more and aimed down their sights, fingers at their triggers.  All of the soldiers, excluding the Ranger, crouched to improve their aim.  The Ranger appeared to have his gun trained right at Purse's head, slowly pulling the trigger back before the beret wearing one raised his hand again.  He looked over to the other troopers and shouted an order.  "Hold your fire!"  The troops complied, though they kept their weapons trained on Purse, some seeming eager to simply shoot her.

The Stallion then turned his attention back to Purse in the distance.  He lowered his rifle in an attempt to show Purse he meant no harm.  His two assistants shot eachother worried glances before they slowly lowered their pistols to their sides.  The one in the beret cleared his throat before he shouted to Purse once more.  "Drop your weapon!  We're not wanting to rob you, or shoot you!  We can help you, but only if you drop your weapon!  Otherwise we'll be forced to put you down before that venom does!"

The Ranger turns his head over to the speaking stallion.  Even through his glasses it was obvious he disapproved of this idea.  He remained quiet, however, and shifted his focus back to his aiming.

Purse Cutter Grunted at the instruction but it seemed someone was either looking out for her or trying to screw her over even more, as the venom in her veins chose that moment to send a fiery, vicious spike of pain through her body, taking the thestral so off guard she actually dropped the revolver to the floor as she used both hands to clasp at the wound, falling to her knees in the process.

Looking up at the soldiers still training guns on her, she decided with much mumbled and internal swearing to hold her one hand up and act as if that had been a deliberate sign of peace, not a chance painful accident.

The Beret Wearing Stallion turned to look at the Ranger as he nodded to him. The Ranger raised his hand upwards, catching the eyes of the other four soldiers. He then ushered it forward, giving his silent order. The troops raised up from the ground and advanced towards the Thestral, guns still aimed. The Ranger followed right at their sides. They surrounded the mare; a precaution in case she attempted anything sneaky. As the Ranger approached, he kicked the revolver further away from Purse, before he then stared into her eyes through his black tinted glasses. He slowly stepped aside as the Beret Wearing Stallion approached from behind, taking his place.

The Stallion crouched down to be at eye level to Purse. His eyes trailed along her wound before he looked back into her eyes. He spoke sternly, but not unsympathetically. "Tell me exactly what happened. From the way you reacted and the looks of your wound, you have venom coursing through your veins. I need to know what kind of venom. Preferably before it kills you."

The two assistants remained slightly behind the Stallion as they watched. The mare assistant leaned down to be a bit closer as she inspected Purse's wound. The stallion assistant then began fiddling with a pack at his side.

"Let's see, big, gray, massive fuck off claws and a stinger just the right amount of 'oh god the pain' when it rips your side open. Specific enough doc?" Purse Cutter grumbled, still clearly in a foul mood. "That's a radscorpion, in case your degree in sticking needles in and hoping for the best didn't include that part." She added snarkily, still keeping a sense of humor even in the bleakest situations... or perhaps she was simply growing delirious, either one wouldn't surprise her.

"Hey, that's mine..." She objected weakly when the revolver was kicked away, attempting to glare at the stallion who kicked it, which might've been more intimidating if she wasn't an already tiny mare bent almost double from the pain.

The Beret wearing stallion simply shook his head.  "Charming, aren't you?"  He then reached his hand back towards his mare assistant, who, after a short second of confusion, realized what he was indicating.  The mare quickly patted at her bags before opening one and peering down inside it.  After a short second she pulled out a syringe with a yellowish liquid in it.  She carefully placed it in the Stallions hand, who nodded to her in thanks.

The Beret cladded Stallion then crouched down, bringing himself to be at eye level with the snarky thestral.  He then lifted the syringe in front of her so she can see it before he brought his free hand over and carefully tapped his fingers against the needle, a small amount of the yellow liquid being pushed out as he does so, causing a bit to accidentally, or perhaps intentionally, splash her in the face.

His eyes then locked with the Thestral before he spoke.  "This will help return the venom levels in your blood back to within their normal range."  He cheekily laughed as he said this before he reached his free hand over to firmly grasp her left arm, where he cleared a spot to her skin.  Carefully, he brought the needle to the underside of her arm and inserted the needle, injecting the entirety of the anti-venom inside her.

Meanwhile, the Ranger kneeled down and picked up Purse's revolver.  He inspected it for a moment before he expertly spun it around a few times.  He then cocked and aimed it at Purse, an almost silent taunt, though the look the Beret wearing Stallion then shot the Ranger made him lower it soon after.

Purse's sensitive nose wrinkled and scrunched up at the smell of the yellow liquid the splashed on her face, sticking her tongue out in disgust at the foul aroma sticking to her fur now. The thestral's confidence seemed to dip as she was injected, looking down and folding her wings against her back, her teeth clenched tightly; evidently she may act as cool and assured as she wanted but had a hard time hiding the fact she was afraid of needles.

She looked back up to see the Ranger holding her revolver. "Put that down!" She snapped, trying to stand up and falling against the Beret wearing stallion as her knees gave out on her, holding herself up by his shoulders and otherwise leaning on him, rather awkwardly pressing her large bust into his chest. "Gimme that!" She said, pointing shakily at the revolver; it was rather customised for a Wasteland weapon, painted two tones of blue and with a symbol of a bat's wing etched into the handle's underside.

The beret wearing stallion let out a grunt as he took on the weight of Purse.  He seemed to not even notice her large bust pressing against him, or, at the very least, seemed unfazed by it. He moved his arms to a better position so as to not let the thestral slip from his grip.  He groaned for a moment before he glanced to his Ranger comrade.  He shook his head at them before he turned his attention back towards the mare in his arms.

"I promise you'll get it back once we get you sorted out.  Till then, I thinks it's better for us all if you don't have access to a gun."  A short pause interrupted him before he spoke to the Ranger.  "Holster that revolver.  Keep it safe till this little snake is all healed." The Ranger nodded his head before following the order, sliding the revolver into an empty holster on his leg.

His order finished, he stood up, bringing the weakened mare along.  He turned to the rest of his team and barked out an order.  "We double time it to the camp.  Set the stretcher up to carry her.  Let's roll, she'll need to be monitored at an actual hospital."  A flurry of salutes followed his words as everyone made ready to move again.

"I'm pretty sure that's what my last marefriend said when I got drunk on the Strip." Purse mumbled into the beret wearing stallion's shoulder as she was held up by him, looping an arm around his shoulders and neck for support while he gave orders. "Hey, I'll skin your snake in a minute..." Purse slurred, probably intending for a witty comeback but forgetting what the last sentence had been.

Purse forced herself to focus as much as she could while she swam in and out of consciousness; she remembered being able to get herself onto the stretcher without much help, not that they didn't try to give her it anyway. Once the party began to move onward however her memories were sketchy at best and non-existent at worst... though she was fairly certain she could write off the giant gerbil that occupied one of her memories as a venom induced hallucination.

The thestral sat up sharply in her bed as she regained consciousness, her wings flapping and her mane hanging freely and getting in her way. The small thestral climbed out of the bed onto wobbly but tolerable legs, taking a note of the blue patient's gown she had on her.

"I swear if you cut my clothes off me." She grumbled to herself, standing up without her bed's assistance now and beginning to tie her mane back into it's braid before she pushed the curtain open and walked through, taking in her surroundings.

The room was rather empty, at least of other ponies.  Medical equipment, operating tables, cabinets, boxes, and tools cluttered the medium sized medical tent.  The bed Purse had been sleeping in was one of three in this tent, though the others laid empty, their curtain walls pulled open.  The entrance of the tent was to Purse's left, at the end of the short row of beds, but it was currently sealed.  Near a cabinet of bottles and bandages, directly opposite in the room from Purses', the Beret Wearing Stallion stood.  He remained in the same gear he had been in when she previously saw him, though it seemed a bit less dust and sand covered.  He also lacked the massive rucksack he had been carrying prior, making him look much less encumbered as he maintained a straightened posture.  In his left hand he held a clipboard, several pages clamped onto it, some flipped over the top.

The rustle of the curtains caught his attention and he flipped the papers back forward on the clipboard as he turned around to face the quite irritated thestral, his reading interrupted.  His mask still covers most of his face, his body still almost entirely concealed under his armour, though, without his massive rucksack of supplies, he seemed a bit less encumbered now.  He spoke, his voice calm and professional, though the thestral may have noticed his right hand slide down his side, resting a few inches above his holstered pistol.  "Ah, you're awake.  Good to see you're up and moving again, although I hope you're not intending to try anything."

He looked down to the clipboard in his left hand, skimming through it once more before he nodded and placed it on a nearby counter.  His gaze returned to Purse.  Notably, he always looked her in the eyes, never once scanning her body.  "The RadScorp venom should be mostly cleared from your system, though your wounds will still take a little while to fully heal.  You had some pretty severe lacerations from where the stinger made contact with your body.  I recommend you lay back down."

Purse Cutter turned to who she could only assume to be the resident doctor of the place, recognising the same beret wearing stallion from the road who had helped her... or maybe mugged her, everything was a bit fuzzy at the moment, although the odds of muggers being nice enough to give her a bed and a hospital gown seemed a bit unlikely even if they hadn't just decided to kill her, so helping was probably the right choice for what had happened on the road.

"I'm fine." Purse insisted, doing a few jumping jacks as proof that she was unhurt; she managed at least four before she winced at the pain shooting through her from the large gash in her upper back where the stinger had gotten her, just below where her wing began. "Okay... yeah, on second thought, maybe a lie down wouldn't be the worst idea." Purse had to agree, walking back to her bed and sitting down on it.

She could not make herself simply lie down though and after a few minutes of sitting up, idly swinging her legs on the bed, she looked to him again. "Okay, you mind telling me where I am at least? I promise I'm not gonna blow up the place, there'd be nothing good left to steal if I did that." Purse promised in the most unhelpful manner she could've managed.
