"It is imperative for students to learn to make a life-saving landing. If you do not learn today, it will be added to your curriculum. And if you are truly Protector material, your Aura will protect you from most if not all of the fall damage." Cinch said, holding a Scroll.

"However, if your Aura is insufficient, speak up now and I will break your fall if you cannot break it yourself." Inkwell interjected, glaring pointedly at Cinch.

"U-u-u-uh, w-w-well, k-keep an eye on me maybe?" Fantasy squeaked. Sunset smirked. "J-j-just- b-better safe than sorry, r-right?"

...

"On the mark of three!" Cinch announced after a moment. Inkwell turned around slowly, looking out over a dish-like field of blue crystals. They were so tall, and there were so many of them that it was like a crystal forest.

"One!"

Sunset and Nox prepared for the launch. Fantasy did too, but with far less confidence.

"Two! THREE!"

The students were launched left to right in rapid succession. Very soon everypony was flying into the crystal forest.

Sunset simply self-levitated and set herself gently on the ground. She knew Inkwell would catch Fantasy, so she wasn't concerned about her. She set off to find the artifacts.

Fantasy took note of which direction Sunset started walking as she hurtled through the air. She'd have to follow her and make sure she was her partner. God, she felt like a fucking stalker, but this was what she had to do. As she neared the ground, a magic force enveloped her and slowed her fall to a stop. She landed with a light ca-clop. She waved awkwardly to Inkwell, assuming she would see her, then started moving, soon breaking into a run and hoping to heck that she'd get to Sunset first.

Nox held her hooves a little in front of her. In no time she landed, skidding to a stop just an inch from a tall crystal. Behind her, she'd left two noticeable grooves in the crystalline ground where her hooves had, with the aid of kinetic force, turned out stronger. She adjusted her hoodie and got moving.

Sunshine let out a cry of excitement as she was catapulted into the field of crystals. If the glow surrounding her was subtle before, it was very noticeable now as she left a trail of light behind her. She didn’t land like the other students though. Instead, she smashed right through one of the crystals and landed on the other side, no worse for wear as the shiny rubble fell behind her. With her landing secured, she went on her way, no doubt with a Cinch bitching in the distance. There was a scavenger hunt to complete!

Castle hummed cheerfully as she stood in her place, ready to be catapulted into a dark and scary forest full of Grimm. Her rifle was slung over her shoulder, and her coat in place. And no blood on her teeth, which was a definite bonus.
She takes a moment to look abound at the other tasty students, all of them ready to go. Aura's bright, instincts primed.
Then Cinch was talking, and Castle focused.

Once she was starting to approach the ground, she activated her semblance. A herd of inky black crows manifest below her in stages, breaking her fall. Each one was destroyed by her impact, but they slowed her down enough to not have to worry about any painful tumbles.
Once she's gathered herself together and dusted herself off, Castle unslung her rifle and sets off into the woods.

While Cinch spoke, Viridian kept her head turned towards her, watching the vice-principal speak while apparently not actually listening to a word she says. Her eyes remain unfocused, her attention focused inwards instead of on what's being said. The moment Cinch stops speaking, she turns her eyes forward and plants the butt of the naginata on the ground. She deftly twists it to one side, opening the firing chamber hidden in the transformable weapon with a brass-cased red-tipped silver bullet already loaded. With another twist, the chamber is secured shut and Viridian calmly assumed a loose-kneeed and relaxed stance to let the catapult throw her as hard as it might in whatever direction she's meant to go. As she's thrown, she leans in to align her body as aerodynamically as she can with the direction of travel, trying to cut down air resistance as much as she can with the large object strapped to her back acting as a drag. As she does this, she grasps the middle of the naginata with her left hand and reaches down to the butt with her right, gripping it and bending it 90° to the rest of the weapon.
Hidden mechanisms immediately go to work: the bracing element of the stock drops out and attaches to the bent end, the blade bends down, rotates and splits in two to create a bladed bipod, and in a feat physically impossible but for the use of intricate Dust runecraft rendering weapon bigger inside than outside, a large rectangular construct "grows" under the firing chamber and off to the left, a long rectangular shape extends marked in red with the letters "VF-HEAP".
As she reaches the top of her ballistic arc, Viridian brings the stock to her shoulder and reaches forward to pull a hitherto invisible sighting device into line with her eye from the long converted weapon, a twin of the device rising into being simultaneously on the end. She looks through the rear site as her course has set her on collision with one of the towering crystals, aiming low on it and calmly squeezing off a shot. With a thunderous BOOM, the loaded projectile explodes from the end, which compresses to almost half its original length, absorbing the recoil with yet another element of Dust runcraft. The round punches into the base of the crystal, travels a quarter of the way through, and then explodes, blasting away three quarters of the base on the side opposite of Viridian and naturally causing it to start collapsing.
Meanwhile, Viridian has switched to grasping the weapon halfway down its length with her right hand, relying on her heavy gloves to shield her from any burns, and flips around in midair so that her feet are now pointed at the collapsing crystal and she hits it fairly hard feet-first. But as the crystal is already falling away from her, it exerts very little resistance and she crouches as her momentum carries her to the ground, essentially "riding" the crystal down. About the time that the crystal impacts, she lets the rest of her forward momentum throw her gracefully off the top, dropping into a roll to distribute the rest of her momentum across an extended space, and then springs out of it into a quick slightly stumbling jog to dissipate any momentum remaining, even as she brings her rifle up again to look down the sights, searching for and valid targets.
Her attention is immediately caught by the deafening sounds of a crystal falling to the ground nearby and almost without thinking, her head whips around to look in the direction of the sound, her rifle following. She couldn't help but blink as she saw one of the towering crystals laying very close to her own, and then start following the path of the fall with her eyes, until they alighted on an explanation for the dramatics that, in retrospect, should have been obvious. "What I appear to have here is a thestral after my own heart," she says to herself with a chuckle before returning to sweeping the forest around her for the Grimm targets she expects to be drawn towards her and the fallen crystals, what with the noise that bringing the pair down had raised. As she scans, she next sees Castle with an unslung rifle starting into the woods and she lowers her own weapon and is about to call out to her when a yellow projectile of Sunny invulnerability blasts straight through another crystal and comes to a stop on the ground nearby, none the worse for wear. She smiles very slightly despite herself. "Hello there Miss Sunshine," she says before looking towards Castle. "And you as well, Miss Castle. It appears I shall be working with the both of you from now on." She grins suddenly and starts after Castle. "Absolutely smashing, I say, in a somewhat literal fashion for yourself Sunshine."

Diamond Mind finished his stretches as questions were addressed and opened one of the pockets on his pants, taking out a vial of green Dust, levitating about 1/4th out of the jar and swirling it around him. It took a moment to settle into the ornate scars along his back, though avoiding two rather out of place scars that ran parallel to each other. He listened intently as students were getting flung to their imminent demise or what have you, but what was important to him right now was listening to the mechanisms of the catapults.

Catapults themselves are a very simple concept, take an object, like say a launch pad, for example, and attach something to it that doesn't like being deformed and hold it there until the word 'go' or 'red' or whatever safe word one prefers to use is said, and remove the secondary object required to maintain the deformation. Diamond bent his legs in preparation for launch and listened very closely to the mechanism. He needed to hear what his father had called the 'pin drop', or when the restraining pin (which is a very mighty pin after all) dropped and released all the elastic energy from the tension built up by whatever other parts of the mechanism happened to not like being deformed. If he timed it just right, he'd gain massive momentum on his jump.

One of Diamond's ears twitched at the sound of scraping coming from his catapult. For lesser ponies who didn't have ways of controlling in-born hypersensitivity, standing here, in general, would have been nothing short of agony. However, Diamond had that control beaten into him since what amounted to day one, and so he knew that he wasn't going to be standing here the next sec-NOW! The catapult began to shift upwards, moving to throw Diamond in with the group of other students, which he didn't want at all. At the very last possible second, right before losing his hoof-hold on the catapult, he jumped with all of his might, which happened to be a lot.

Diamond knew his Aura was more than insufficient for the landing he wanted, but that was probably because he didn't feel like landing. The dust along his back glowed, forming a pair of wings so that he could easily fly through the air and almost immediately blazed past the other students without making eye contact. Then came a thought. I wonder if there are any Nevermores around...I'm exceptionally bored.

Resisting the urge to immediately snark at Cinch, Pariah pinched the bridge of his nose, before glancing at Silver with a knowing smirk. "I'll be seeing you on the ground then?" He asked as he took of his blazer, letting it drop to the ground before smoothing his pants. Silver nodded and pecked him on the cheek, and he chuckled, before the right sleeve of his shirt was shredded as the individual panels of his arm expanded, and he sorted through the stock of arrows that were now visible. Nodding to himself, he pulled a vial of dark purple dust, before slotting into his mechanical limb, the panels sliding back into place and flashing with the same colour as the dust.

With his checks done, he glanced back to the teachers as they finished talking, before ignoring the temptation to just phase around the catapult and thereby not launch at all. He braced himself, before he felt the catapult shift, and he was launched high into the air. His left sleeve now was shredded, as a steel bow was ejected from his arm into his hand. An arrow fell from his right arm, into his hand, glowing purple, before he aimed at one of the rapidly approaching crystal structures. Taking a breath, he steadied his aim, before firing, the arrow streaking out and striking the crystal, the entire chunk taking on a purple glow before it began to pull away from the earth with a groan.

In an instant, Pariah's bow returned to his arm, and the spent cartridge was sent tumbling from his arm, before he began to focus his aura into his feet, angling to his body before he slammed into the rising crystal. Bending his knees, the crystal shattered beneath his feet, and he burst through, before skidding to a halt beneath it, the shards raining down around him as the gravity nullification of the dust failed. "Not the most efficient landing," he mumbled as he brushed his shoulders clean. "But enough that Silver should be able to work out where I am."

Wild Card smiled and flexed his wings one last time during the countdown to the launch, folding them close against his back afterwards as he sorted out his top hat briefly. He glanced over to the left, watching as - on the final count - the other students were launched off, and with this he did a quick estimation of when he would be flung into the air. With this in mind, the pegasus turned his head forwards, and a moment later he was sent soaring into the air, a giant smile on his face as he angled his wings to spin him around a bit.

With a triumphant cheer coming from the pegasus, he spread his wings at the apex of his trajectory to glide a little before folding them back with a flip and plummeting head-first down towards the field of crystals, gaining speed as he fell. As Wild got closer and closer to the crystals, he looked for one that wasn't flat on the ground, but wasn't pointing straight up, something with a nice angle to aim for. After finding such a crystal, Wild maneuvered himself so his hooves would land first and spread his wings out, slowing his descent to let him lightly touch down on the crystal, leaving no damage to it. "That was fun indeed." He said to himself cheerfully, stepping off the crystal as calmly as ever.

Razor Back actually leapt into the catapult's trajectory, gaining more air than just about anyone as she actively pushed herself higher up, clearing the tops of even the highest crystals before she began to descend back towards earth; the thestral was obviously trying to cut this as quick as possible and minimize the amount of time she had to spent in a grimm infested area, which was surprisingly sensible given what a hothead she had seemed last night.

Razor Back didn't draw her swords and whiles she did spread her wings she seemed content to glide along until she picked her spot; she looked for a crystal which was positioned at an upward slant and looked flimsy enough before folding her wings in and slamming her arms and legs to the side.

The crazed thestral seemed like she was going to willingly smash headfirst into the crystal until she flipped over at just the right moment instead delivered a devastating dropkick to the crystal. She had picked her target well, the crystal came free with Razor now perched on the top of it, riding it down the incline it was on like some deranged surfer.

"Ha!" She let out a great shout of laughter as she rode it down, obviously enjoying herself. Before it reached the bottom however she took off from her sliding crystal and allowed it to slide further down to crash at the bottom of the hill. "Now, while you make a lot of noise..." Razor said, tapping the side of her helmet so the purple lenses glowed brightly. "Let's see if we can't find ourselves a relic..." While she spoke she perched herself on another high crystal, the lenses zooming in and out in front of her eyes like a pair of binoculars; her semblance had allowed her to knock down the crystal without breaking anything but her aura would need time to recover, while she had to do that she decided to use her high vantage point to see if she could more easily see where she was going... and maybe spy on the others, just maybe.

The knocked down crystal had served it's purpose however. The echoing crash and subsequent scraping down the hill could be heard far and wide, which hopefully would draw a lot of grimm to it and out of her way.

The crystal forest was actually quite bright, as Castle would quickly see. Most of the crystals were light and refractive enough to be almost unbearable but otherwise gorgeous on a sunny day. Today was overcast, though, for any present thestral’s sake.

“This may be our most immature, reckless group of first years yet.” Cinch grumbled, watching at least half of them destroy a crystal for the heck of it. Not only would the sound attract every Grimm in the forest, but the destruction would lead the creatures right to them! They’d be dead by year’s end if they continued like this! And how would dead first years reflect on the safety and education standards of this school?

“Relax. This style of operation works for some, and for those it doesn’t, they’ll learn a different one.” Inkwell responded, watching the students with absolute focus, making sure they followed the rules of initiation… and that they didn’t die.

“Fighting is not a style, Inkwell. This is not a dance school, where students can act as they please. This is a school to train Protectors-”

“Yeah. Protectors. Not soldiers. They’re each individual heroes and need to be treated and trained as such.”

Cinch huffed, glaring out into the crystal forest.

Meanwhile, a great number of animal screeches, roars, and howls began resonating through the crystal forest; the Grimm knew they were there. It was time to hunt. A large group of Grimm, pure black wolves as big as bears (or bigger), moved toward the most recent crystal shattering: Razor’s. They wouldn’t find much there, despite that destruction being the most recent. That pony must’ve moved fast.

Or maybe…

The older Grimm figured it out while the younger ones sniffed around or gave up and left to chance upon another pony. Those Grimm followed a shallow trail of destruction that Razor’s crystal had caused, looking around for the clever pony who had deceived most of them. One of them spotted her and howled, and drew the rest of them to her. They ran up to her crystal, snarling, roaring, and howling, but couldn’t get up; they were as good at scaling giant crystals as you’d expect a dog to be.

Fantasy jogged through the crystal forest, holding her stun baton ready for any Grimm that decided to try to sneak up on her and keeping a sharp eye out for the temperamental bacon-head unicorn. Her jogging made minimal noise as she was wearing rubber-soled horseshoes.

Then, “by chance”, the two spotted each other and accidentally made eye contact (Fantasy thanked the imaginary deities).

Sunset’s eyes widened, then her muzzle wrinkled in disgust and anger. “No!” she shouted to her, and spun on her heel in the exact opposite direction. A projectile landed at Sunset’s feet with the speed of a bullet. It was an arrow, with a note attached. Sunset delicately took the note, read it, growled and crumpled it up.

She stomped over to Fantasy, pointing a finger right in her face. “I’m the leader.” she growled, then stomped off. “Come on!” she shouted. Fantasy jogged to Sunset’s side. The two walked in silence for uncomfortably long minutes.

Ahead, Wild Card would see a murder of Nevermores, as big as the wolf Grimm, circling and divebombing something (more likely someone). At the same time, many of the Nevermores screeched in agony and fell to their deaths in or out of Wild’s sight. The ones in his sight he could see the cause of their death: razor-sharp crystal clusters were sprouting out of their heads.

Some Beowolves had been drawn to the commotion that Pariah had made. They pretty much charged on sight, except for two who held back, waiting for Pariah to become vulnerable.

Wild Card continued walking as calmly and cheerfully as ever, until he spotted the group of Nevermores. This prompted him to take off his hat and reach inside it... just as he noticed a few of them shriek and die due to something in their heads - something he was quite sure wasn't a part of Grimm anatomy. Either way he still took out his weapon, a white bladed tonfa now being held in his left hand, and he wandered closer to where the corpses of the Nevermores lay.

The pegasus looked around for a bit and chuckled, putting his hat back on with a smile, "So, need any help or do you have this covered?" He called out, grabbing hold of a hilt embedded in the tonfa and drawing out an ornate, black long-sword with intricate lines of colour throughout it, primarily along the edges of the blade. Wild twirled the sword in his hand idly while waiting for an answer, but he kept himself ready just in case a stray Nevermore - or any other Grimm - tried to attack him.

Razor Back looked down from her observations at the Grimm trying to climb up the crystal after her, not overly concerned about them; her little crystal bowling pin routine had done it's job and attracted the most immediate threats out into the open. Razor was no soldier or tactician but she would rather have an enemy she could see that was aware of her than an enemy hidden in the shadows that could potentially leap out at any moment and catch her off guard.

The magnifying lenses of her mask let her survey her surroundings and pick her destination for the path of least resistance. Once she had picked out the seemingly least Grimm filled path she kicked off from the crystal and freed her wings, shooting off North before the the Grimm below had fully realised she was taking off.

Razor swore loudly and swooped low as a Nevermore decided it wanted easy airborne pray, swooping down into the crystals again and slamming head first into a unicorn running the other way; Razor was knocked silly with no time to activate her semblance and tried to roll away when she hit the floor, overbalanced and fell over again, nearly knocking Viridian over again in the process.

Pariah hummed as he watched the beowolfs charge, cheerfully sliding a new cartridge into his arm, this one significantly larger and a pale blue. His bow erupted from his arm again, and he targeted the second closest wolf, unleashing an arrow that arched out, faster than it had any right to, and glowing a pale blue. If it hit, it would explode into ice, the ice acting like a wave that would encompass the entire beast, freezing it solid.

Taking aim at the closest next, he paused as he saw something flash through the air above him, before slamming into the lead beowolf, crushing it under 750 kilograms of pure silver. The mare-shaped statue stood up and dusted herself off, before walking over. "Hello sweetie."

Pariah gave a short bow, before shooting the next wolf over Silver's shoulder. "What a pretty entrance. I assume you saw my little display?"

"Of course I did sweetie... shall we dispatch these grimm?" She asked, turning to face the remaining beasts, a pair of falchions in her hands. "I don't plan on killing less than you, by the way."

"Wouldn't have it any other way," Pariah replied, already nocking another arrow.

Castle looks around, spotting Sunny and walking over. She was a tad disappointed she hadn't ended up next to that goddess further down the platforms, but perhaps they'd end up on the same team? The gods were sometimes kind. Regardless, now was not the time to think on her future lover. She needed to escape this forest with her partner. Speaking of which...
"Hello? did your landing go okay?" she asks, holding the rifle at the ready in case of sudden Grimm attack.

Viridian is stalking slowly forward with her rifle at the ready, scanning the forest for Grimm, when a ball of violent sexy lesbian crashes into her at full speed. Viridian finds herself flattened by the mare who'd used her as a prop for traumatizing the Celestia's Witness, and then wonders what comes next in the short time before she hits the ground. She lets the momentum force her into rolling several times before she rolls back to a prone position with her gun at the ready. This brings her to the realization that there are Grimm now chasing the thestral and they're coming towards the pair. She also realizes that there is a ready made and probably nicely firm shooting rest right there, and there were bonus benefits to said shooting rest that could be taken full advantage of. With this in mind, she crawls over to Razor. "Hold still," she says before nocking the butt of her gun to her shoulder, resting the bipod on the ground and the body of the rifle on Razor's belly. She then reaches around Razor's breasts on both sides, looks down the sight and grins. "Cover your ears, darling, it's about to get loud 'round here."

With that, she cocks the weapon and starts sending 30mm high-explosive armor-piercing shells downrange, set on a short fuse designed to detonate the projectile just as it passes through the first few inches of the Grimm's body. Unlike ordinary anti-armor shells, however, the explosive component is wrapped in deeply-scored metal so that when they explode, red-hot shrapnel goes shooting through the victim's body, shredding their insides. Interspaced with these are self-forging anti-Grimm shells, a steel core wrapped in powdered rust wrapped in magnesium with a hair-trigger ignition contact detonator at the tip. Those Grimm unfortunate enough to be struck by the SFAGs had a jet of molten metal, burning magnesium, and ignited thermite shoot into them at a high rate of speed... and Viridian had 100 rounds of both being fed into the chamber in an alternating pattern as she blasted away with her rifle, doing her best to conceal how she was enjoying her particular position.

Sunshine looked over at Castle and waved. “Hey there.” She looked where she landed and smirked. “Yeah, my landing went well. I’m Sunshine. I look forward to working with you.” Her ear twitched at the sound of nearby gunshots. “Sounds like the fun has already started.” She pulled out her sword, which started glowing faintly. “Shall we be off?”

Diamond Mind continued flying overhead, looking down at the commotion below him and adjusting his current altitude to make sure the landing would be safer should he need to perform it. He was on the lookout for either flying Grimm or Artefacts, whichever one came to his attention first, though it was more apt to be the former than the latter, which was fine with him as much as he cared.

He made sure to double check his wings, noting that they had enough Air Dust manipulating the wind to continue generating lift. However, as it looked, he had 8 minutes of fuel left for his wings unless he wanted more momentum and air time, but that was a later idea for when he actually needed more.

“Help is always appreciated. I’m only one pony after all.” the mare said without looking at Wild, taking down two more Nevermores in the time it took to say that. The mare was pale blue and had a short, curly violet mane with a lavender streak. She wore a chestplate with a protective rune on the front, and carried a morningstar.

The Nevermores were quickly growing wary of the blue pony who was making sharp crystals suddenly appear in each other’s heads. They were flying higher and higher, trying to get out of her magical range, while firing razor-sharp feathers at her. The feathers that got too close to her bounced off a bubble maintained by the rune on her chestplate, however they were still flying at bullet speed and some of them were spinning.

However, upon seeing a pegasus- especially a pegasus not dressed for battle -many of them changed target. Some of the Nevermores went into a dive, aiming at Wild. Then more. Then more. And more still. They were all twice as big as the average pony and there were… uh… a good number of them. One of them was bound to hit him, dead or alive. And… hey! If they kept this up, maybe they’d overwhelm the unicorn pony, too!

“Incoming!” Crystal shouted, sweat running down her forehead as she tried to keep up with all the Nevermores. “I hope you’re good at dodging!”

Even if the Nevermores were killed, they still turned to heavy, ballistic masses of black dust.

The poor pupper in the ice block whined. Now it was cold and couldn’t kill anything!

The other Grimm, though…

They rushed Pariah and Silver, coming from the front, sides, and back, climbing up, jumping from, and bouncing off any crystal they could to make themselves difficult targets. A few started yelping and falling dead, getting struck by straying razor-sharp feathers or the crystal shards that were blasted off by them.

Viridian’s shooting did nothing to deter the Grimm. They charged without caution, even as bullets mowed them down, their fallen brethren repeatedly tripped them, and Nevermore feathers rained down on them all.

The “artifacts” were all placed at the far end of the crystal valley, each on their own pedestal. There were 16 artifacts in total: a quill, a plastic crown, a biker helmet, a Celestia plushie, a King of Hearts, a toy lightsaber, a hand-held mirror, a chess rook, a silver statuette of a prehistoric four-hooved pony, a steampunk Grimm statuette, a fist-sized rock with a black galaxy spiral carved into it, a bright green Nerf gun, three sea shells, and a large quartz crystal.

Sunset frowned. “Those are the artifacts?”

Fantasy snickered. “I love Inkwell’s sense of humor.”

Sunset rolled her eyes and continued onward. Mere seconds later, Fantasy muttered, “Oh, those motherfuckers.” and stopped Sunset.

“What?” Sunset snapped. She didn’t have to wait long for an answer as several bear-sized Nevermores swooped in over the pillars and stole nearly half of the artifacts. They proceeded to fly away and over the rest of the valley, making sure that, while out of reach, the ponies could still see what they had.

Are you bucking kidding me?” Sunset growled. They hadn’t even tried to attack them! They just came in and took the artifacts before she’d had a chance to react!

Fantasy sighed.

Wild Card chuckled as he heard the response, figuring as much, and he started to run towards where the action was taking place. 'Guessing this mare will be our partner then. Unless someone else ventures in and we catch their eye first.' He thought to himself as he watched some of the Nevermore's feathers bounce off of a bubble around the unicorn. Getting up to a good sprint by now, Wild looked at the size of the Nevermores while wondering which configuration would be best to take them down. After a brief thought, he decided to leave his weapons as they were, and fired a few shots at a nearby Nevermore that had decided to try its luck in attacking him.

"Good at dodging!? I bloody well hope I am!" Wild called back as he leaped to the side of a Nevermore's claws, giving a quick spin and slashing at another Grimm unfortunate enough to be near him, leaving behind a trail of fire dust. He turned to launch himself up to the sky, and would've gotten quite far... if it wasn't for the corpse of one of his foes that flew into him knocking him back on the ground. From there he could see how many Grimm were coming at him, so with a swift arm movement he folded the tonfa on his arm in half and started firing the shotgun at the beasts in the air along with the revolver embedded within the cross-guard of his sword. Any Nevermores that came close enough would find themselves on the wrong end of the sword's blade, fire dust included to add to the pain and potentially set some feathers on fire.

Castle nods to sunny, briefly checking her rifle before following the other mare into the forest. "Let's be off then." Hopefully they wouldn't die. Castle very dearly wanted her last sensation to be eating another pony, and attempting to do so now would be counterproductive to survival.

Razor Back's vision had been knocked blurrier than the grime covered windows of the the clubhouse on a stormy night but, as always, the thestral was quick to adapt; when her head was clear enough to recognise the weight on her chest and what it was for she stayed still, focusing instead on the Grimm hoards and looking for an opening to get up without interrupting Viridian's fire rate in a way that would get them both stuck in the teeth of an Beobeast.

Finally she saw her opportunity and took it; in one fluid motion Razor leaped into a kneeling position and immediately from that position catapulted herself ten feet in the air with a swish of her wings. There was an audible woosh of metal leaving scabbard and the sound of the sword cutting through the air, accompanied by a loud cawing which was cut off abruptly.

"You know, there'e easier ways to cop a feel!" She called to Viridian over the racket of the gunfire, supremely uncaring about the huge Nevermore head she had just severed which thudded behind the two of them with an almost disappointingly soft crash.

"Ah well, let them have it partner!" Razor grinned and dashed forward, weaving in and out of both Viridian's gunfire and Grimm claws with the grace of an ice skater, slicing limbs and heads off of any Grimm that managed to slip through the hale of gunfire or that came from an unexpected angle.

Pariah chuckled as he fired another arrow, before sliding his bow away and flexing his claws. "They have us surrounded... those poor bastards," he mused, catching a beowolf by the throat as it lunged at him. There was an audible snap as he twisted his wrist, letting the dead Grimm collapse to the ground, and he smirked, the next wolf being left extremely confused as its claws passed straight through his body, before he shoved his hand through its chest, pulling out the foul creation it had for a heart, crushing it with a splurt. "How are you going Silver?" he asked, glancing over to see his fiance decapitate a third beast. "Well enough, but I believe I lead by one," he said, already leaping into the path of yet another Grimm.

Pariah wiped his claws clean as he watched the corpses disintegrate. "Well that was fun... but I believe that Nevermore has one of the trophies... shall we go for a hunt?" he asked, already knowing her answer as he walked casually towards the bird-like Grimm.

Viridian shifts her rifle to her left shoulder and looks down the rifle sight with one eye while keeping the other one open. She sees an especially large and ancient-looking Beobeast and stops firing even as she rolls to a side, letting Razor spring to a kneeling postiion and then go rocketing upwards with the sweet schink of a sword being pulled out accompanying the thestral upwards. She reacquires the oncoming Beobeast and pulls a shell with a silver tip and what looks like writing covering the entire bullet out of her coat pocket, slamming it home and taking careful aim. A pull of the trigger sends the "silver bullet" rocketing the relatively tiny distance and straight through the thickest part of the Grimm's skull as if it was a hot knife through butter but the head doesn't burst from hydrostatic shock, nor does the bullet come out the other side. Instead, the Beobeast drops in place, skidding along the ground, flipping end over end, until it rolls to a stop just barely coming to a rest where the Nevermore's head had been. By the time it's come to a halt, the head has melted clean off the shoulders and the rest of the body is sloughing off like molten wax even as the disintegrating effect of death consumes the beast from the other end.

"No, there bloody well aren't!" Viridian yells back to Razor. "Not without you hitting me in the head till my teeth fall out, and I'm rather attached to my teeth." She then recocks the recoilless rifle and starts blasting at Grimm with her HEAP/SFAG mix, making minute adjustments so that she's firing behind Razor, knocking down any Grimm that tries to flank her partner before they can even lift a claw or open their jaws. "So for how long shall we linger about culling the Grimm, do you reckon? There's a mission to complete after all!"

Sunshine walked with Castle, looking around for Grimm. There were gunshots and Grimm roars and the like all around them, but they seemed to not pay the two any attention so far. Pretty soon, she saw why. A whole moshpit of Grimm were recklessly charging towards two ponies she recognized from the night before. Specifically, the unicorn and thestral who taunted that other lunatic unicorn. Names kinda escaped her sometimes. She stayed a respectful distance from them, not wanting to jump headfirst into their fray, just so she wouldn’t get accidentally shot. She did have her sword out and ready, in case any Grimm decided to attack. She looked over at Castle. “Those two make quite a pairing. You think we should say hi?” She asked. “Or better yet, see if we can snag some kills for ourselves?”

Diamond Mind saw the pair of mares basically confirm that there were artifacts where he was flying over, and he circled back towards them. However, as he did this, two Nevermore had stolen a few of the artifacts. This pissed him off to no end, especially the pair's apparent lack of enough caring to do anything about it.

Diamond's 'wings' retracted, noting how much dust he expended in using them and remembering that. He switched to slowly falling using the wind Dust, taking note of the closest cluster of Nevermore. He just needed to ground them, and the other students could do the rest. His horn lit up, and he was basically on top of his first target Nevermore from the word 'go'. He planted a single, high-powered attack into the back of its neck, which would knock it to the ground at a minimum. He then teleported to the next Nevermore in the cluster, doing something similar, but this time to one of its wings, specifically where it connected to the rest of the beast. Two down, two to go. He teleported to the third Nevermore and decided to do a similar punch to the third Nevermore. When he teleported to the fourth, he decided it needed some special treatment, and instead grabbed its wing, putting his strength into dislocating it and forcing it to the ground along with the rest.

Diamond hoped that the other students could handle the other three Nevermore and that some of the students not in the immediate area saw the other Nevermore that were escaping. Sadly, he didn't have such a way to rapidly communicate with other Hunters on him, mainly because he didn't want to break his new Scroll and buy a replacement. He secretly blamed his lack of foresight in such areas on his immense ability to break things very easily.

Diamond broke the neck of one Nevermore, sending it disintegrating on its way to the ground, burying an artifact in the process. He then breaks the shoulders of two more Nevermore, and dislocates the wing of the last one he’s on. This Nevermore begins spinning as it falls, hoping to throw Diamond somewhere hard and sharp, to break something of his.

The two Nevermores with the shattered shoulders begin running in the general direction of the chaos, still holding artifacts in their beaks, unflinching to injuries which should’ve been crippling and excruciating. The third Nevermore, if it succeeded in dislodging Diamond Mind, would do the same. If not, then it’d be trying very hard to crush him against something.

Meanwhile, there were eight more Nevermore flying around with artifacts in their claws.

“Be careful!” Crystal shouted at him. But her warnings were almost unneeded: the Nevermore were retreating, up mostly but then in a rather specific direction. And then a couple of larger Nevermores flew overhead, carrying somethings in their talons.

A tall mare in a battered dark purple cloak soon showed up running after those Nevermores, shouting, “Stupid bastard birds!” and was just as quickly gone from Crystal’s and Wild’s immediate area.

Crystal looked at Wild finally. “I think we should follow her.” Without waiting for his response she took off after the cloaked mare.

Razor and Viridian quickly mowed down the Beowolves. However, now Nevermores were being drawn into the fray. There’d be around two dozen there soon.

Meanwhile, as Razor killed a Nevermore a very familiar biker helmet landed in her hand.

No more Grimm were in Pariah’s or Silver’s area, and no more razor feathers were raining down. However, Nevermores were definitely heading for something, and a few of them had something in their claws. One of those somethings was the silver statuette of a prehistoric four-hooved pony.

“I can’t believe this!” Sunset shouted, running past the engaged ponies.

“The birds took the artifacts!” Fantasy told them, running close behind Sunset.
