PostSubject: The Fantasy Begins At Sunset (Private)   Mon Apr 11, 2016 9:50 pm

The night was quiet around Canterlot High tonight and even the stars seemed to have decided it was too late for them to be out as the full moon was the only light source hanging in the air for the orange skinned girl sitting on the school statue.

"Hey Sunset, any sign of activity from the portal?" The text message read, announced by a brief sound from her mobile phone.

"No, nothing tonight. Looks like we might be able to have a peaceful weekend girls." Sunset replied silently; the former unicorn was dressed in a rather battered pair of jeans with her new pale blue shirt with a yellow skirt trim along the bottom that Rarity had insisted on, then immediately regretted when Sunset combined it with her jeans and leather jacket.

Crime against fashionistas aside, Sunset seemed ready for a quiet night instead of chasing rogue parasprites or opportunistic changelings around. The portal in the statue had been occasionally opening at random to other areas of Equestria after the damage it had taken during the Friendship Games and without any way to fix it Sunset had simply started a rota of her and the girls volunteering to keep watch over it.

Somehow she always ended up with fridays, but she used it as a chance to catch up on some reading nonetheless, casually holding a fireball in one hand to read her book. Perhaps not the most responsible or disciplined use of her magic but it worked and kept her warm too.

It happened in an instant: a brilliant flash of multicolored light, a sound like an explosion, a small shockwave that blew everything back, and in less than a second it was gone. There was a lingering energy, and a shallow, smoking crater with a very badly injured unconscious girl (cracked skull, broken arm, dislocated shoulder, burns all over her body (her hair was on fire, too) and probably unseen injuries) a few yards from the statue base, but the portal that had exploded into existence was gone.

Sunset instantly leapt off the statue, her hand going to the improvised sheathe that she had strapped onto her back; a baseball bat was in her hands by the time she reached the edge of the crater that had resulted from the impact, the wooden bat instantly aflame in Sunset's hand, which strangely didn't seem to bother the girl at all even as the flames danced from the wood and over her hands.

"Hello?" She called into the smoke, waving it away with her arm to try and get a better view while she held the flaming bat up high to act as a torch. "If there's anyone in there, we don't mean you any harm!" Sunset called out, not sure what to expect as usual; the last 'visitor' had been a changeling who had been rather hard to persuade to go home.

Holding the flaming bat aloft to light her way she reluctantly slid into the crater, waving away the dust and smoke in the air before she felt her foot bump against a solid something on the floor. After catching herself from tripping Sunset looked down to notice the body of a very battered girl on the floor.

"By Celestia..." She whispered in slight horror. She placed a hand on Fine Fantasy's shoulder and rolled her over as gently as she could, so she was looking up. Sunset snapped her fingers in front of Fantasy and waved a hand, checking for signs of consciousness.

"Right.... please don't wake up in the middle of this." She grumbled before closing her eyes and clapping her hands together before placing them on Fantasy's shoulders; flames erupted down Sunset's arms and trailed down along across Fantasy's body but instead of blazing, all consuming and vicious the flames were calm, almost like they were hugging Fantasy's body and the felt like a warm crackling fireplace despite the seemingly violent flickering and jumping of the fire.

When the fire died away Fine Fantasy's skin seemed fully repaired and the most obvious of her injuries dealt healed, though no doubt there was more to be fixed internally; that would need a hospital.

"Hey." Sunset said quietly, snapping her fingers by Fantasy's ear before giving her gentle slaps to the cheeks. "Come on, wake up. Wake up. I need you to wake up for me, it's going to be alright as long as you wake up..."

"Mmuh?" Fantasy immediately flinched and grimaced. Why did everything hurt all of the sudden? It hurt to breathe, it hurt to move, and... the air tasted and felt like smoke. Why did it feel like smoke? Why was she hot? Had the house caught fire? What happened?!

She opened her eyes.

Sunset waved the baseball bat in front of the girl's eyes to make sure they followed the light, taking it as a sign that she had at least some awareness. "Hello? Look, how many fingers am I holding up?" She asked, holding up three fingers in front of the girl while she slipped the baseball bat back into the improvised sheathe on her back, using the flickering flames in the crater as a source of light instead to examine the girl and see the damage for herself.

A light drizzle was beginning to fall from the sky, tiny droplets of rain causing the fires to spit and smoke, not that Sunset seemed to notice or care.

Fantasy's eyes flicked to the baseball bat for a second, but she was obviously more interested in Sunset. She was... oddly... real, as blurry as she was. Fantasy figured that her being here, and so hard to distinguish, obviously meant this was a dream. But if that was the case, why was she in so much pain?

"Th-... f-h'our?" she managed to slur out.

Sunset frowned. "Alright... I'm not going to lie, this is going to suck." She said, slipping her hands underneath the girl and waiting to make sure she could lift her with how she weighed. Thankfully she wasn't too heavy for her and instead felt light enough to hold.

"Right." She said, slipping her baseball bat back onto her back as it extinguished itself with no visible signs of damage. "On three... one..." She never said two and instead lifted Fantasy immediately into a cradling hold, she had heard it was supposed to hurt less if they didn't expect it... or was that the other way around?

Fantasy was hardly paying attention to the situation, so she was taken by surprise when it turned out that she had mentioned counting for a reason. The pain was sudden and unexpected, and Fantasy groaned and grimaced. On the bright side, Sunset was holding her.
