PostSubject: Encounter at Castle Sol   Sat Mar 19, 2016 9:58 am

Translymaneia: A land in the northern reaches of Equestria, in the Crystal Mountains. With only 3 hours of naturally occurring sunlight, the land was rife with tales of vamponies and other such spooky tales.

Heading to this bleak landscape was a grey stallion with a blue mane. Glancing at his map, he looked up at the castle looming in the distance. "Well... the map says that's Castle Sol. Home to some Duke according to his briefing. Granted, his intel was out of date by a century or so, and he was tasked with assessing whether or not the castle's current owner represented a threat to Equestria. If so, he was instructed to neutralize the threat. He was really hoping it wouldn't come to the latter, he was only here as a personal favor. Beginning his trot towards the castle, he sighed. "Could this place be any more of a cliche? Ain't seen the sun in like 15 hours, spooky forest, dark foreboding castle. Should've brought a camera crew and a few Kooky actors, made myself a stack of bits..."

As he approached what looked like the entrance gate to the castle, he looked around for a guard of any type. Failing to find one that he could detect visually, he frowned and began rummaging through his pack. His employer had sent him out with a bag of oddities that he raised his eyebrows at, not sure what kind of scenario they expected him to encounter. "Ah, here it is. Hate these things." From his pack he pulled out a small yellow crystal. "Well, lets see what's hiding in the dark shall we?" He crushed the crystal between his front forehooves, then scattered the shards and dust around him, speaking a command work. "Lumen" A flood of sunlight bathed a 20 ft sphere around him as he closed his eyes for a brief moment, shielding them from the sudden influx of light, the sliver band on his right forehoof glowing faintly as he pushed mana into, preparing for what might emerge.

As the stallion approached, he would likely have a sense of dread, though it would be a rather tiny one. The air was cold, as it always was and always will be. The seasons were reported to rarely change beyond 'cold and freezing' all year. The forest itself, however, was strangely fine despite the year round freeze.

Upon the use of the light crystal, there was plenty of shifting and rustling in the foliage as something or multiple somethings moved away from the source of the light and towards the gate at a ludicrous speed. However, the light would also reveal something else. A statue of a strange looking unicorn, with proportions not unlike that of an alicorn, fangs, a sharpened horn, with a visage of despair, meekly pawing towards where the sun would rise that day. At the base of the statue, a plaque read: "In memory of Duke Sol Sanguis, who sacrificed his ability to gaze upon his beloved sun to save the denizens of Transylmaneia."

Ahead, the gate would silently open.

Sword would relax his posture as the invisible beings scurried away towards the castle, apparently opening the gate for him as they did. "Heh, guess they didn't like that. What's this here..." Reading the inscription before him, Sword frowned slightly, looking inside his bag at the remaining gear he had with him. "I guess this castle has a new master then. Hopefully one who's diplomatic in nature, cause whoever they are, they know I'm coming now. Ah well, could be worse."

Sword then trotted past the gate as he began to examine the architecture of the castle, looking for a point of ingress he could reach on wing. Not currently spotting one, he continued up to the entrance, opening the door and slipping inside.

As Sword progressed up the path, he would see statues on either side. Assuming this was some sort of garden, everything but the path was covered in snow. Lots and lots of annoying snow. The statues themselves were iced over and didn't have many discernable features due to the ice. There was a large double door on the front of the castle, basically confirming that this was not meant to withstand a full blown war.

The moment Sword got to the double door, one of the doors would open to let him inside. The inside was almost darker than the outside, with the foyer having no windows, and exactly three doors. One door with a seemingly broken lock to the left, one locked door to the right, and one open door straight ahead. Once he was in the foyer, the door to the outside would close, and a blur would move through the middle door.

Past the middle door was the hearth room, with a dead hearth to the far right. There were couches and chairs around the room, with a variety of strange ponies strewed about. Every single pony there wore old, strange clothing that would only be familiar to older Equestrian nobility. Interestingly enough, all of the ponies there wore blindfolds.

There were around seven ponies by the hearth, two thestrals, three unicorns, and two earth ponies, simply sitting and talking, with the occasional giggle between them all. A pair of ponies, a changeling and a pegasus, were in an emptier corner doing an age-old dance with each other that wouldn't look out of place in older Canterlot establishments. And finally, there was an earth pony and a unicorn sharing a couch, lying against each other and occasionally kissing and making strange giggling noises on occasion.

Upon seeing the collective herd of ponies gathered before him, Sword would become motionless. Seeing that the group was occupied for the most part, and hadn't noticed him yet, he slid up against the wall, silently backing into the foyer. Pulling a set of tools out of his satchel, he started to work on the locked door. "No fucking idea what kind of orgy I just walked in on, but I think I'll pass on interrupting the pre-equestrian porno in there." he muttered to himself. Being an old piece of architecture, Sword had little issue getting the lock on the door open, but was disappointed to see a long dark hallway that seemed to stretch on and on forever. "Well fuck it then..." he cursed quietly, closing the door and re-locking it. Reaching into his bag, he rifled around for a case, eventually finding it and pulling it out. "Hate these things, but can't see shit in here without them..." Opening the case, he grimaced and pushed what looked like a gel replica of an eye ball into his own, it dissolving and changing the properties of his own. He repeated this with his other eye and then blinked away the unpleasant sensation. Still, it was worth it, as the room was now quite a bit brighter for himself, his pupils massively widened.

Slipping back into the hearth room, Sword spotted a staircase towards the back of the room. Staying along the edge of the room, and away from the dancing couple, he held his breath and snuck over to the staircase, quietly beginning to ascend it. "Right, so intel on this mission was utterly worthless, not that it was much help to begin with. With some luck, I'll find the owner of this castle soon, and can get this over with quickly. Hope that pony prefers to talk rather than fight though.."

The ponies, for the most part, didn't respond to Sword's movements at all. The moment he spoke, however, everyone but the dancers stopped. All of them sniffed the air and tilted their ears slightly towards Sword, following his movements and staring with blindfolded eyes. None of them spoke. None of them breathed at all. The couple dancing in the corner continued dancing, either completely unaware of what was going on or simply ignoring Sword.

Up the stairs, Sword would see a hallway. A long, stretching hallway with doors on either side. And coming right at him was a mare. Tall and majestic, draped with a blacked dress, with a long, black, mane and tail, with blood red eyes that clashed against the sclera that matched with her mane, and a horn that could probably impale a pony through armor. She merely said "Out of the way, interloper." before walking straight through Sword, leaving him cold and breathless. She stopped at the end of the stairs, looking down at the collection of ponies and levitating a small bell. She rang it, but Sword was unable to hear it all. "Return to your rooms. Your exercise period is over."

The ponies nodded, silently moving into the Foyer and disappearing through the door Sword had disturbed.

As the tall mare approached him, Sword narrowed his focus. "She's fast." he managed to think before she walked straight through him. Not an entirely unfamiliar experience for him, he instinctively sucked in a breath before it was snuffed out of him. Rolling forward, he shook the chill and turned to face his possible adversary. "Vampony. An older one too... Physically outclassed. Need countermeasure. Disengage" His brain barked orders at his limbs, left hand reaching into his satchel as the band on his right wrist glowed, a short, thick, defensive blade snapping into reality as he grasped it by the handle, assuming a defensive posture. Seeing that she had stopped at the staircase, and had not yet engaged him. Sword relaxed slightly, lowering his weapon, but not removing his hand from the satchel, which was currently clutching another sun crystal. Not wanting to initiate lest he offend, he opted to simply watch and wait for her to turn her attention towards him. "Remember Sword, I need to you talk to the lord of the castle, not kill them if possible. We need to know where they stand." his orders flashed in his mind as he waited.

The tall mare turned away from the hearth room, walking over to Sword and frowning. "Put away that sword unless you want me to break it, interloper." She then saw what his other hand was holding, and glared with such a fury that if looks could kill, Sword would be a fine, red mist. "Do you intend to make an attempt upon my life? You wouldn't be the first and you definitely wouldn't be the last. I suggest you put that crystal away and bow. Then I'll consider asking your purpose here." She stood in front of Sword, waiting for him to follow her commands.

"I'll meet you halfway." Sword dismissed his blade but retained his grasp on the sun crystal. "You'll have to forgive if I don't leave myself entirely at your mercy." Though having dismissed his blade, he kept his band active, it noticeably glowing as they had their exchange. "My purpose here is to ascertain where this castle stands in relation to Equestria. And while I am equipped to kill you if found that you're hostile to the current standing Diarchy, my primary purpose is again, diplomacy." At her request for a bow, he paused for a moment. "Whilst I normally only bow to one mare of the night, I believe these circumstances will allow for an exception to this." He bowed rather curtly, in more of a military fashion than a political fashion. "Now, will we talk, or will we fight? The choice is yours."

"Hmm. You have manners and a bit of wit about you. So you're not just some military runoff reassigned to suicide missions." She adjusted her stance, going from the more casual and relaxed manner from before to a more regal stance. "And if you believe yourself to be talking with the current duke or duchess, you're wrong. I'm merely the Duke's daughter, acting in his stead." She adjusted her mane, moving an errant strand out of her face. "In relation to equestria, the Duke has always been an ally. Though you mention the 'Night Whore', who everyone here hates with their very being, not limited to her betrayal." She began to walk away, before glancing back at Sword. As much as she was suspicious of this stallion, she had to get to know him better before she passed any judgement. "Will you join me for wine?"

Sword shook his head, allowing himself a small laugh. "Believe it or not, the fact that I was sent is in a sense a gesture of respect." As their conversation seemed to relax a bit, he removed his hand from the satchel, relaxing his gesture. "Well if you're acting in his stead, that's good enough for me. And if you're not hostile to Equestria, I believe this will be a more pleasant evening than I was expecting." When the mare spoke her next words, his expression soured greatly. "In the interest of mutual respect, I'd ask that you refrain from that rather.. off description of one of my two princesses, lest it become a personal issue for me. That being said, I wouldn't mind a glass of wine whilst we discuss things further." He'd follow after her when he finished speaking.

"Then if you don't want her badmouthed, don't mention her here. This is not the place for her, especially after what she tried to do." The mare continued walking, occasionally moving out of the way of vampires of lesser standing (Primarily because they had places to be). When she got to the 10th intersection, she took the hallway to the left, which led to a door at the end. Through this door was a ground-level 'social room', with multiple tables to sit down at and what looked to be a bar all the way at the end. She would swiftly stroll over to the bar, reaching behind it and taking out a bottle of wine. "It's a non-traditional way to store it, but I don't need to waste money and space on a cellar for these." She levitated down a couple of glasses, before popping the cork on the wine and pouring a little in each glass. "Now then. Why would the princesses question the allegiances of an age old equestrian noble family?"

Sword would follow her down the hallway, ignoring the lesser vampires that didn't pose much of a threat to him and keeping his attention focused on the mare ahead of him. He followed her through the door at the end of the hallways they turned down. Stopping at the bar with her, he took a moment to observe his surroundings as she poured them each a glass of wine. "Its your castle. I wouldn't presume to tell you how to run it." Taking one of the glasses, he raised it at her for a moment, before taking a sip of the wine, rolling it around his pallet before swallowing it. "Some things change, some things stay the same. Yours would not be the first ancient allied family to go rogue. Tis better to be vigilant than too trusting." Taking another sip, Sword would take this moment to examine his host in greater detail. "Celestia hot damn... I'll have to keep the wine intake to a minimum, lest I speak with something besides my brain he thought to himself, setting his glass down. "Now, may I know the name of whom I am speaking to? My name is Sword Symphony, former Lunar Agent, here on a personal favor to the crown."

The mare merely sipped at her glass of wine as she moved over and took a seat at a table near the bar, levitating the bottle over and setting it in the middle of the table. Sword's examination of her would reveal that, while her dress was built to be very conservative in style, the owner had made a few modifications to it to make the wearer seem more...appealing. "Well then, Mr. Symphony, I'm obliged to tell you my name. I am Blood Moon, Heiress, Flag Bearer of the Second Crusade and acting ruler of Transylmaneia." She leaned a bit on one arm, finally smiling but managing to cancel that out by accidentally showing off her fangs in the process. "So it's a personal favor. How did you end up owing one of the princesses? From what I hear, that's rather hard, and even harder to get them to owe you one." She took another sip, having almost emptied her glass now. "It's nowhere near like that down here, in the games of the nobility. I wish I could play more with them, but sadly, my current predicament makes it hard. Good mortal help is so hard to find these days..."

"Heiress Blood Moon then." he repeated, taking another sip from his glass. "And yeah, its a personal favor. My severance package from my original role included the unique band I wear around my right wrist. It came with the stipulation that if the Crown required my services again, I would at least consider hearing them out." Drawing from his glass yet again, he continued. "No offense, but I wasn't expecting to find much apart from a spooky old abandoned castle. Transylmaneia is more a land of spooky tales than actual substance..." As the mare smiled and showed her fangs for a moment, Sword stopped briefly before continuing. "For better or worse, it does appear that some elder vampires yet remain in this world. My experience with the few vampires I've encountered were mere fledglings gorging themselves before I neutralized them. Now, I beg your pardon, I need to contact the princess for a moment" Stepping away for a moment, Sword would go inert for a few moments, with nothing but an intense glow from his right wrist to indicate that anything was occurring at all. "Alright, I've sent my initial findings to the princess. She requests that I observe Transylmaneia for a time, if you're willing to host me for a spell." Finishing his glass, Sword smiled at her briefly. "You did say you needed some good mortal help. Apart from whatever it was that I stumbled in upon, what'd you need help with?"

Heiress Blood Moon nodded. "Interesting piece. It has a hint of conjuration to it..." She took another sip of wine, almost draining the cup. She chuckled at his statement of her castle being a 'spooky abandoned castle', draining her glass of wine. "There's been a 4 month blizzard, I'm surprised those ponies out there don't think we're all dead. As for the fledglings...yes...I've put down my fair share of blood-crazed fledglings. I usually feel guilty afterwards...Anyhow, you are excused." She poured herself another cup, waiting.

As Sword would go back to his seat after stepping away, he would notice a stallion that had been standing behind his seat. The stallion dressed in a suit and tailcoat, as if he were some kind of servant, and despite having the body type of a unicorn, he had two horns situated more like a goat's than a unicorn's, and his tail was long and thin, ending in a point. He had no scent. He made no sounds. He stood there, perfectly still, probably waiting for something like an order.

Blood Moon spoke up first. "Transylmaneia is considered a land of tall tales and spooky stories because most ponies manage to completely miss the actual town. Its around two miles away from the front gates of my little castle here, but supposedly there's a magnetic field here that ruins the sense of direction and a supposed 6th sense that some ponies have." She refilled Sword's glass of wine listening to him speak. "Well, I need help from someone who isn't allergic to the sun or hasn't bound themselves and their immortality to the manor grounds." She glared at the stallion standing behind Sword's chair for the briefest, but most notable moments. "Primarily to transport me to Canterlot via carriage. It's enchanted of course, I just need someone to keep it on track. My last carriage director died of old age, and I haven't had the time to find a new one."

"Yes, my band could certainly be labeled as interesting. And yes, conjuration is its main purpose, although it has a few aspects of divination as well, mainly for communication." Sword would reply after finishing his communication. If he was disturbed by the sudden appearance of the goat-like stallion, he didn't show it, graciously accepting the glass that Blood Moon had refilled for him. "Thank you." He said as he took a sip. "A magnetic field that disturbs clarisentience and natural sense of direction... that makes sense. I did have a bit of a problem getting up here initially." Sipping on his drink, he listened to her explain her list of needs from him "Well I fit the criteria, despite my own aversion to the sun. If you need someone to guide a carriage to Canterlot, I can be that stallion. When were you thinking about making a trip to Canterlot?"

Blood Moon nodded. "I'm only an amateur in the field of magic, so that's why I probably missed it." Her face lit up at the word 'clairsentience'. "Well someone's a special somepony, now aren't they. That's rare, even amongst vampires of Saginus Sol's level. Let me guess, you have a 3rd eye? I haven't been able to test to see if I have one, but I know a pony who can 'see' ahead. He was completely blind in his right eye the entire time he was up here. And yes, if you could guide the carriage I would be indebted to you."

She frowned up at the goat-like stallion behind Sword. "Lucian Pyre, don't be rude. Either follow your aesthetic or leave. If you're going to be present in a private conversation, do your job."

Lucian sighed, moving around the table and actually facing Sword. He had a strange, almost devilish face, but was rather handsome overall. "You must be famished from your trip, sir. Would you like something to eat? Our cooks can make something for you...though with some dishes, it depends on the season."

Sword shrugged. "I've no idea if I have a so called third eye. All I know is that when I'm being attacked, I can see it a few moments before it happens. I also know it doesn't work when I'm being attacked by more than one person." Finishing his glass, he waved his hand at the bottle to politely refuse another drink. "I am a mite hungry, to be honest. A meal, and a chance to get off my feet would be a pleasure. I'm not picky, you can send whatever you will for me to eat. Much appreciated." Turning back to Moon, he continued. "It'd be an honor to guide your carriage wherever you please. As long as you don't mind waiting till tomorrow to depart to your destination."

Blood Moon blinked a bit, before nodding. "Well, the vetting process is going smoother than I thought." She drained her glass again, and chuckled when Sword refused another drink, putting the cork back in the bottle and handing it to Lucian, who accepted it gracefully and picked up both of their drink glasses.

Lucian would nod at Sword's decision, shrugging slightly and standing up straight. "Oh well, I hope you don't mind fish~" He would vanish into a puff of smoke, leaving no trace he was there.

"And this is why I say good help is so hard to find. In order to get a halfway decent quality butler I had to get a half devil and put up with his shenanigans." Blood Moon only looked minorly perturbed at the entire situation, seeming to file it more under 'petty gripes' than anything else. "So...tell me more about your relations with the princesses. Those sound fun and interesting~"

"Fish will be excellent, thank you." Sword replied before Lucian vanished, continuing his conversation with Blood Moon. "Yes, well the best help does usually come with some kind of quirk. I'm happy to report that I'm generally quirk free." When Moon asked about his relationship with the princesses, he adopted a contemplative look for a bit, taking a seat. "That's... a hard thing to talk about. Or rather to sum up in a succinct manner. My relations with Princesses Celestia and Cadence were merely as VIP's to keep safe. As for Princess Luna, apart from being my primary employer and benefactor, she's also responsible for my training, which goes far beyond then norm than even the traditional elite among the guard. Would it be odd to still feel a somewhat motherly affection towards someone who's tortured you both physically and mentally..." he asked that last bit as if he himself didn't know the answer to it. "Eh, it was a burden I shouldered knowing full well that was part of the process. Of course, now I'm not technically employed by her, but yet I will still come when called, and will go when directed. Once a personal servant of an Alicorn always a personal servant I guess."

Blood Moon listened intently to Sword, leaning a little further as he described his relationship with the princesses. She seemed somewhat disappointed at Sword's relationship with Celestia and Cadence, expecting maybe something a bit closer or juicer. She showed some interest in the relationship with Luna, though she failed to resist the urge to instinctively lick her lips at the mention of the torture and matronly affection. "The Night Whore does not disappoint. I'll have to file that idea away for further play. It's interesting you keep yourself on such a tight leash with her. Most ponies of your profession, which I am going to make a tiny leap of logic and say 'Throne Assassin', usually cut ties and vanish when they are relieved of duty. Of course, a lifetime of unfortunate reflexes would make living in more public areas of an extremely peaceful country difficult to say the least. I hear some make it back into normal life, for better or for worse." She looked Sword dead on, her alien, unblinking stare almost trying to pierce into his soul. "So why would you take a job maneuvering some rich vampiress's cart around? Is normal life getting a bit too boring? You almost lunged across that damned table when I offered it to you. It seems like you want someone to curse you with the ever so charming 'May you live in interesting times' curse that some ponies babble on about."

Sword twitched as Blood Moon referred to Luna yet again as "The Night Whore" but swallowed his displeasure to keep decorum. "I wouldn't really refer to it as a leash. I'm currently receiving a lifetime compensation for my service, so in essence its more akin to me being on retainer. If there's no one else available or qualified, Princess Luna requests my services. As for my reflexes, I'm a fairly compartmentalized individual. I don't get twitchy in public." Tapping his fingers on the counter for a bit, he contemplated her question. "I'd suppose the first half of that assertion is correct. I am quite bored as of late. There's only so much reading and so much scotch one can drink before you begin to claw at the walls looking for some form of excitement. If chauffeuring you around gives me a reprieve from that, I'm all for it. I seem almost destined to live my life orbiting around beautiful ageless powerful mares. Why resist when its so entertaining?"

"Lifetime compensation. That means I win a bet...that half devil's rear is going to be sore later~" Blood Moon happily mused as she wrapped her fingers across the table, each little tap of her fingernails filling her little mental silence. Always index finger first, middle second, ring, and then her pinky. Without fail. No interruptions in the rhythm. "So I was very close. Nice to know that my psychoanalytical prowess hasn't completely fallen apart due to a lack of outsiders to practice on. Now, on the subject of boredom..." Sword would feel an icy cold breath on his ear, and Blood Moon would be nowhere to be found. The room itself would fade into complete darkness. "There's always something to be done. I love the livelier ponies, especially those who have the decency to squirm for me when I'm in my 'moods'. But that steely resolve of yours is something out of a fairytale. All you need is that pretty armor~"

And then Lucian would reappear. The room looked as if nothing had ever happened, and it looked like Blood Moon had never left her spot. Lucian was carrying a plate of fish for Sword and set it down in front of him. It was smoked trout that looked professionally prepared, cooked all the way through as to prevent diseases and such.

Blood Moon would turn to Lucian. "Hey, Luuuuuuuuucian~? Guess what~"

"Yes, Ma'am?"

"The crown does give lifetime compensation for services rendered as long as you're on retainer."

Lucian sighed at this news. "Fine. I'll meet you in the cellar later tonight then. No point in trying to delay the inevitable..." He then vanished again.

"Good boy~" Blood Moon then had her attention back on Sword. "Now, I don't expect you to be that compliant with me, but you're always welcome to give up your free will and completely become my servant. It's just an option, of course~" It seemed like she was joking, but one could never really tell with vampires.

Sword gave her a slightly intrigued look and shrugged. "Well.. I guess that's good? Seems like an odd thing to bet on but whatever works for you." He happily let the silence go by, letting the vampire enjoy whatever little mental game she was playing. "Well yes, its important to...." he stopped half way through his sentence as the room went dark around him. "Yes, like telling a rather gracious mare that I don't enjoy literal mind games, and can quite easily recognize when someone is messing with my head magically. Please don't intrude upon my mind again. And with his piece though, Sword closed off his mind from mental influence as he was trained to do, allowing the world to slip back into place, and nodding with approval at the plate of fish set down in front of him. "Thank you." he replied, picking a piece out with a fork and examining the fish for a moment before eating it.

"I believe the nature of our relationship is in its beginning phase, and I've not much incentive to just give you everything you want with no resistance. But I'm certainly not above bargaining..." he glazed over her body with his eyes as he said his last bit, a smirk on his face.
