PostSubject: A strike of lighting, a flash of red   A strike of lighting, a flash of red Icon_minitimeTue Feb 09, 2016 2:25 am

The wind howled through the small coastal town of Inheritance, driving the freezing rain almost sideways through the streets. There was a crash, followed by a flash of light and a strange series of ancient sounding curses as a mare in full plate armour stumbled into the muddy earth of the main road. He whole body was wrapped in light before it seemed to condense and shrink till it was little more than a nimbus around her helmet covered head. As she staggered through the town, the violet plume of her helmet sagged under the weight of the rain, and she continued to mutter as she brushed it out of the way of her eyes.

With a snort and a grunt the mare made her way to the pub, pushing against the solid wooden door till it creaked open, ducking under the frame so the spear on her back, which shone like the rainbow, managed to squeeze under. She pulled off her slick and sodden helmet, her natural mane popping out. Moving with a purpose, she approached the bar, placing a dozen golden coins in the space between herself and the barkeep. "Strongest beer you have," she muttered, and he nodded, not saying a word about the spear, or the pair of silvery artificial wings that were nestled against her armour.

Glancing around the room, the mare snorted at the nearly empty place, her gauntlets quickly stripped to reveal more of her dark purple fur, plethora of scars barely visible beneath it.

PostSubject: Re: A strike of lighting, a flash of red   A strike of lighting, a flash of red Icon_minitimeTue Feb 09, 2016 11:26 pm

Among the sounds of the storm outside and the sparse few patrons inside, the scratching of pen against paper sounded out almost loudly. Its source was sitting at a somewhat far table, set towards a back corner of the bar that offered an unparalleled view of almost the whole establishment. A single pony sat at it with the hood of a dark green cloak pulled up and over it's face, the intricately symbol covered lining framing the unnaturally dark, shadow covered face. The only indication as to that it was a pony actually sitting at this back table was the yellow fur of it's hands that held the quill that was forced to dance about the papers held by the other hand, in a frenzy. The only breaks in this scratching was when the quill was dipped into a nearby inkwell, or the most recent paper was filled and set upon a slowly growing stack to dry. There was also a small plate with almost half a sandwich and a mug of something cluttering the table, but the figure didn't even seem to notice them for the moment.

When the new armored pony arrived the scratching had momentarily stopped, but it'd picked back up with a vengeance as she ordered the beer and continued right on through when the scars were revealed.

The mare, for that was what she was beneath the heavy plate, picked up the beer as it was placed in front of her. Her mane shone in the candlelight, the colour changing and shifting like an opal as she tossed back her head and drank deeply from the mug. Her throat pulsed as the golden liquid passed over her lips and down to her stomach, and only once the container was empty did she allow herself to lower her chin. "Weak," she murmured, before sniffing the air. "Another, else I won't feel satisfied."

As the barkeeper nodded and walked away to get her a fresh glass, the mysterious stranger looked around, her eyes sliding over the pony in the corner, and though she looked at her for nary a moment, she took in a lot of detail. As the second beer arrived, the mare took it and repeated her earlier actions, placing the mug down and wiping her lips clean. "The sleeping agent you put in my beer... it is quite tasty. I'll have some more please, beer as well. And you can tell your buddies who plan on robbing me no doubt that I'll be hiring a room, and I do not wish to be disturbed." The stallion paled, but said nothing other than to fetch her another mug.

The scratching of the quill stopped when the mare stopped, but picked right up again soon as the armored pony started drinking again. Though the opening to the hood where the pony's face should have been visible did shift to the mug that was sitting at it's table. It seemed to pause and think for a moment, as if contemplating whether or not it's mug had been poisoned too. Then the hood shifted to look at the papers and it moved them back some to study them.

When it was apparently satisfied that if there even was poison in the drink, it hadn't affected the written work, the cloaked figure went back to writing more. It's cloak also drifted some to the other patrons in the bar, looking for any others that might have appeared shady or surprised at the armored mare's call.

"Now that I am sufficiently weakened," she intoned, rising from her seat in almost silence, only the gentle clinking of her armour filling the gaps of sound. "I believe that you may or may not be able to scratch me," she smirked, a little drunkenly as she glanced over her shoulder at the pair of stallions who had stood up, blades shining in the candlelight as they approached her. She swayed for a moment, before her hand moved slowly up to the spear on her back, only to drop back down. There was a blur of moment, before the mare was standing next to the door, and the stallions were on their knees, blades clattering to the floor.

Without so much as a glance at the pair, the mare yawned and staggered over to her chair, dropping down into it before picking up her drink and taking a swig from it, swaying in her chair. Her eyes drooped as the drug started to take effect, her mouth opening wide as she started to yawn.

The cloaked pony continued to watch the scene like it's own personal play, occasionally pausing in the fervent scribbling to just watch. Then came the blur of movement, and while the cloaked pony's eyes were good, even they strained to keep track of what actually occurred. When the clattering settled, the cloaked pony paused in it's writing for a bit as it replayed and went over the actions until one series had made enough sense and then it went in to keep writing.

It then took a minute to once more examine the mug and food at it's table. After a couple tentative sniffs, it sat the quill down for the first time since the armored pony arrived and took another bite and drink. The cloak still hadn't revealed anything of it's face, even when the whole ensemble tilted back with the mug for the drink.

"Little author, if you are writing about me, then note that I was wrong. Neither of them were able to scratch me. I am... disappointed, honestly," the mare called out across the bar. "Also, I would be... extremely appreciative if you would assist me to my room. I do not believe I am well enough to do so on my own..."

The mare slid off the bar stool, dropping to her knees before slowly pulling herself up, leaning heavily against the bar. "If you do not wish to, that is... fine..." her eyes drooped and she yawned loudly. "But I would... pay... if that will motivate... you..." Assuming the author in the corner wished to help her, then the pair would be guided slowly by the pale barkeep to a largish room. If note, the mare wavered a bit, before snoring and crashing to the group.

The cloaked figure looks up with a bit of a start at suddenly being addressed, but nods all the same to the proposition. It stands up and with a graceful smoothness before moving across the floor and coming to support the staggering mare. Taking the armored mare's arm over it's shoulder to support, it followed after the barkeep until they arrived at the bought room, and then gently guided the armor clad mare to the bed. It took a moment to look about the surroundings before starting towards the door.

The mare smiled as she felt the younger mare move under her arm, trying to lean on her as little as possible as she stumbled towards the room. She collapsed onto the bed, armour and all, before giving the hooded pony a smile. "I'll... I'll pay you... in the... morning..." she mumbled quietly, before her eyes drifted shut and she began to snore quietly. To the observer, it was clear the drug had taken its toll, and she seemed for the most part too deep to wake up any time soon.

the cloaked figure had thought about responding, but decided against it at the time since it stood to reason that the armored pony would probably forget anyways. As it exited the room though, the cloaked pony looked towards the shut door, then down the hallway in both directions. When it seemed satisfied of being alone in the hallway, two red glowing circles appeared in the unnatural darkness that lurked under the drawn hood. The shadow under the figure suddenly seemed to solidify and then shift, reaching toward the door and then beginning to climb it. Once the door was completely covered in the artificial darkness, it seemed to settle into a straight shape and then the darkness began to fade away to lighter colors.

By the end of the little ordeal, there was no remaining evidence that there was ever a door there to begin with, the opening covered up completely by an illusion that made it look like there was nothing more than wall there. The figure didn't stop there though as it shifted it's focus for a moment to the wall to the left of the door, where another small batch of solidified shadow moved and took the form of a door complete with knob. That way anyone who tried to get into the room would try to use the false door and find it not willing to open regardless of their attempts since they would be trying to open a wall.

Content with the little illusion, the figure turned about and walked back down to the lobby of the little inn. It found it's seat again, finished off the meal, and then wrote a bit more before packing up it's stuff and proceeding to it's own room for the night.

The mare slept soundly that night, despite the raging storm outside the cracked and roared threateningly, rain pounding against the windows. By the time she awakened the next morning, the storm had down little to abate, rain still hammering down, though the sounds of thunder and lightning had slowed a little. She rubbed her eye as she slid out of her bed, armour clanking as she managed to pull herself to her feet, before she looked around and sighed, the memories of the previous night returning quickly.

Placing a hand against the door handle, she paused and examined the illusion she could feel on the other side of the door, her spear shimmering eagerly. With a shake of her head, she pushed the door open and stepped outside, on alert as she glanced around the hall. With no sign on anyone, she relaxed a little, and trotted downstairs, sitting down at one of the many available tables.

As the armored mare entered the lobby area, the possibly familiar sound of a quill scratching against paper suddenly picked up. There once more back in the corner table was the cloaked figure, and once again that unnatural darkness shrouded it's features completely aside from the yellow furred hands that held the quill and paper. There was a cup of tea and a slice of toast with jelly missing a couple bites sitting there as well.

Even with the complete obscurity of the figure's features, the anticipation it was experiencing when the armored mare entered was obvious. As if it was looking forward to seeing something that would likely end up wrote down on the papers in some form or another.

Standing up again, the armoured mare trotted over to the table in the corner, and without waiting for a reaction, nor asking for permission, she dropped into a free chair. She waved to the barkeep, ordering toast and coffee, before glancing at the figure in the shadows. "Thank you for last night," she said, before opening her metallic wings and beginning to straighten some of the feathers.

The figure looked up and seemed to be watching the armored mare as she approached the table. It continued to not say anything as she sat down at the table, made her order, and then thanked her. "Oh, it wasn't any trouble," the figure replied with a distinctly female voice as the quill stopped it's scratching once again. "So why did those guys attack you?" She asked, still completely shrouded in her cloak.

With a smirk, the mare tapped her armour. "Probably wanted this. Thought I was some rich noble girl probably. My name is Aurora by the way. How much do I owe you for last night?" She asked, her wings returning to their spot at her back as she accepted the food and drink from the barkeep.

Chewing a bite of her toast, she grunted. "Looks like the bastard learnt his lesson, didn't bother trying to poison me this morning. Say... have you been in this town long?"

"You already paid me well enough," the figure replied with a nod before reaching forward to grab up the cup and take a long drink from it. "I haven't been here for too long myself, only a couple days really," the figure replied again. It might serve to note that while the figure's head did tilt back some to take the drink, the darkness obscuring her face didn't so much as shift.

"Why do you ask?" she asked next.

"When did.... I pay you?" She asked, cocking her head in confusion as she sipped her coffee. "I don't recall doing so." As soon as the liquid touched her tongue she coughed and turned her nose up at the offending beverage, before taking another large bite of her toast. "And I asked because I was wondering how long it had been raining for," she explained, glancing out the window to watch the rain continue to hammer down against the buildings.

"With the performance last night," the pony explained from her concealment. "The one with the thugs that you handled so deftly despite your inhibited state. It was an enjoyable spectacle and one that I was all to happy to record as a source of payment. After all, making sure you were alright helps my chances of seeing an even grander performance later," the pony elaborated. "As for the rain, I think it was even when I arrived, but that wasn't my focus at the time so I can't say for sure... OH, I know, I'll check the passages," the mare drifted off as she shifted the stack of unwritten parchment to the side and brought the already scribbled on ones directly in front of her. After a few seconds of leafing through them, she found what she was looking for.

"And upon the day's rainy eve, a tavern crept into sight for the worn and weary travelers," the pony read in a voice that could barely be recognized as her own before seeming to look back up at the pony and nod, maybe? With the hood up and the darkness present, it was kinda hard to tell what exactly she was looking at or doing. "Looks like it was raining when I arrived, and I think that was yesterday, at least."

"I... see. So I paid you... by beating up a couple of thugs? You are an odd one indeed," Aurora murmured, before watching her leaf through her previous pages with a slowly rising eyebrow. "So you write everything that happens to you down? Why?" She asked, nodding at her answer. As the mare answered her question, her mind began to wander, the thoughts of unending rain tickling a memory, one that she tried to pin down without success.

"Not everything, just the interesting bits that I believe I can use for my next story," the shrouded one replied while switching stacks of paper so that the unwritten was back in front of her. "And you're one to talk about being odd. Who walks into a bar, has a couple drinks that they know are drugged but drinks them anyways, then proceeds to beat up a group of thugs while the effects of the drug and drink are starting. Only to nearly face plant the floor with a good night kiss right after." She retorted with an enthusiastic tone. "Oddity however makes for some of the more interesting characters and move a story much better than the everyday ordinary. So why come to this little corner of the world if you don't mind me asking next."

Aurora considered her question for a moment, finishing her first piece of toast. She swallowed, and gave a curt shrug. "One who grows bored easily. Besides, looking for a fight is certainly less odd than a mare who hides her face and writes nonstop. As for why I have come... I did not intend to end up here. I was travelling home, and this storm literally sucked me into it. That alone shouldn't have been possible, but to add insult to injury, I can't even fly out because of some magic inside it."

"Magic in the storm? Oh that's good," the figure replied as she quickly dipped her quill pen into the ink well and hurriedly made some fresh scribbles on the paper. "So you say we can't fly out of it? Do you think it's possibly intentional? And if so then were you the target, someone else trapped here, or the area as a whole?" the figure then asked without looking up or stopping the hurried writing. Though there was an interested and almost challenging tone in her voice as it inquired, as if begging Aurora to construct her own theory on the happenings in contrast to the obscured figure's.

"I'm saying that I cannot fly out of it. I have no idea if such restrictions are placed upon other flyers. At a guess, I would assume it is designed to trap any such pony who enters the town, though for what purpose I cannot say," she shrugged and finished her piece of toast. "I assume that exploration of the area will be in order."

The hooded figure nodded, or at least the hood seemed to bob a little with Aurora's agreement that things seemed to be like a trap. It made a few more scribbles on the papers before retrieving a string from somewhere and binding the stack up. "I could do with some exploration," she added with a bit of emphasis on the last word. She apparently had also decided she was going to either go with Aurora as the hooded figure was already beginning to pack away the writing supplies.

"One thing, before you even think of following me. I know not your reasons for hiding your face, but I refuse to work with a hood. If you would, I would like to see your face whilst we explore," Aurora explained, standing up slowly, picking up her helmet as well. "If you do not, you best provide a damn good reason as to why."
