“Link Start!”

You will all remember those words. They sealed your fate, powering on your NerveGear and plunging you into a tunnel of flowing colors as the helmet-like device intercepted signals from your brain. Little did you know those would be the final words you would speak in Equestria for a long time. The date is November sixth, twenty-twenty-two; and you have all began your first full-dive into the first and highly anticipated Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game created for a special VR console called the NerveGear. Ten thousand copies of the game were printed, all were sold out within seconds of the game’s release.

A pre-game status screen dominates your vision, it lists and then confirms the link connection of the five senses: touch, hearing, smell, sight, and taste in the form of individual colorful circles, rotating as each were put under total control of the NerveGear platform. Soon, all five display “Ok” and float off to the right of your vision. Another prompt appears, a login screen. Your NerveGear inputs the required information for you, and the prompt responds with a happy chirp, giving way to another screen that displayed a rather simple “Welcome!”. Said greeting disappeared shortly after in a flash of white, and you find yourself in a room with seemingly endless dimensions. Character creation, you realize.

Three items stand directly in front of you: A mirror, a wardrobe, and a weapon rack. Approaching any of them would bring up a menu, listing options typical with character creation. Hair color, gender, eye color, mane style, coat color… curiously enough, there seemed to be no option of race, your reflection displaying that of an Earth Pony regardless of whom you actually were in the ‘real’ world. It seemed the rumors were true, Sword Art Online had no magic. A rather bold move, you think, for an MMORPG to not have any magic. Regardless, you shrug it off and continue with the character creation process.

As a complete virtual reality MMORPG, the SAO system is capable of rendering the entire Aincrad(The world you play in) environment with incredible realism. By stimulating nerves in the brain, it is possible to taste food, feel the wind and weather, move one's body, and live in SAO as if it were an alternate reality. However, there are several major differences that set the Sword Art Online environment apart from the real-world experience.

First, no pain is actually felt in any situation. As a result, players can undergo severe injuries and still only feel a tingling sensation. Second, there is no blood; in its place are orange virtual gashes that are seen in the place of damage. Third, Sword Skills allow attacks to be performed with normally impossible speed, dexterity, and power, based on the player's stats. Fourth, there are some everyday actions that simply are not done in the SAO world, such as changing clothes by hand or attempting to wield two items at the same time.

While playing Sword Art Online, players still feel fatigue and hunger (even if their real bodies are not hungry). As a result, it is an absolute necessity for all players to eat and sleep within the game. However, there is never a need to defecate or go to the bathroom. The SAO system generally censors mature content (e.g. sexual intercourse), but it is even possible for players to disable the censor if «Moral Code Removal» is selected on the options menu.

Death or deletion in the game is visualized by fragmentation into thousands of polygon shards. All monsters, items, and players that have their HP or durability reduced to zero, disappear and fragment into polygons in such a fashion.

Appearance: Going with a look much like himself, Rez's coat will be white. His mane and tail will be their usual neon blue with silver tips done up in the usual messy, spiky matter. His maroon eyes will be opened wonderfully. At the start, he's wearing a simple black shirt with a neon blue basic symbol on it. A pair of grey pants, and a plain green headband.

Weapon Choice: Initially, I think we're going halberd, naginata if we're getting really specific

Appearance: Exactly the same as in real life, except without the wings obviously.

Appearance: Gringolet stallion with a coat as white as clouds, mane as red as the setting sun, and built rather lankily. Gringolet actually pulls off a rather “nerdy” look: his mane is permanently unkempt, and his golden eyes are kept hidden behind a pair of thick glasses.
Entering the world, Gringolet will come wearing a red nehru jacket, worn tight against his pale coat.
