The begrimed kirin had come for the flight after all. Acrimony was glad that the kirin could speak the trade tongue. “Yes, we’re almost ready to get going. In just a few minutes, we'll be headin' out to the docks. My name is Acrimony Tang. Very pleased to meet you.”

Dusk and Viola were interacting. It was great to see that they were talking to each other. This group needed cohesion, especially now with what Acrimony was assuming to be an old mother-daughter relationship gone wrong. Or maybe the term ‘mother’ was designatory. Either way, she didn't like what was happening with the two, especially the fact that they had ended up on the same flight but looked like they were trying to avoid each other.

Acrimony sipped at her warm, delightfully sapid soup while glancing back and forth at Loose Tinder and the dragon. The texture was wonderful. She needed a recipe for this dish. She thought about cornering Loose Tinder about that, among some other things...

The dragon's name was Lunatic now, was it? Huh... The dragon, Lunatic, was… Well, she was imposing and intimidating, as well as large in stature, being much more than just tall and skinny. The slightly menacing, symbol-covered cloak really didn't help.

Acrimony nodded silently in reply to the dragon's apology. She was gonna try not to take sides or anything silly like that just yet. That would come after she figured out, if she ever did, what was going on between those two.

The soup rose a few inches out of its cradle as Acrimony coaxed it out and up with her telekinesis, forming spiralling helices that spun and whirled to cool the steaming liquid off. The liquid dropped down into the bowl after a few seconds of levitation, making little ripples. That’s what Acrimony felt like at the moment, twisting and wavering, not completely settled down.

"Indeed," Dusk Hammer said to Viola with a smile, "So, Viola, are you traveling for any particular reason or are you traveling just to travel?" He thought avoiding the tense situation might help, and perhaps ease the nerves of Acrimony.

Viola looked towards the outside, where the weather didn’t look any better than it did five minutes ago. She let out a sigh and looked back at Dusk. “Oh, I travel all the time. I just don’t usually get out and meet other ponies. But my traveling companion insisted I get out there on my own and make some friends. Start an adventure of my own. Possibly save the world, if she already hasn’t done that.” She chuckled to herself. “That reminds me of another certain introverted pony who was told to make some friends. Hehe... Gooooood times…”

Acrimony sipped at her soup. The trip was going to be heavenly with this kirin cooking for the ship. The coldness between Lunatic and Tinder was going to be a bit harder to swallow.

Acrimony peeked over at Viola, clinking and whirring. "Your travelling companion, eh?" she asked. It was always a good plan to travel with friends. "So where're they at now?"

Lagnia nodded at Acrimony. "Thank you for letting me join on. You don't know how much it means to me." Then Lagnia turned back to Veil, only to hear the same vague answer he'd heard a thousand times from his father. If he hadn't spent 5 days in freefall, only got 20 hours of sleep, 6 total meals, his clothes and mane ruined, and wasn't 200 miles away from home, he might have responded normally. But all of those things had happened. So he did what any reasonable kirin would do. He snapped. He first let out a roar that would put most dragons three times his size to shame.
"̾̌̓͑U̴̬̹̖͙̮̻͈̔͋Uͨͨ͛̍ͦ͛̍U̫̥͔̪͎̦̎͛͊ͪ̉͗̀U̇ͯͩ̂͆͠U̮͙̿̊̀ͤ̄͑̀̚U̢̝̩͓̿̊U̴͉̞̣̹̹̣ͬͩ͒̅͗ͅU̵̬̻͖̮̤̹ͯU̬̰̓̿̏̓ͧ́͡U͉̐ͩ͛̂̔U͍͉͎U͖̯͎ͥͪ͟E̢̯͈̦͖̩ͭE͕̩ͯ̊̚͜E͎̙̰ͦͫ̄͊͛̚E̘̩̦̗͈ͪ̈́̌̽ͥͧͅE̜̔ͣͬͧͧĚ̡͈ͫ̓̀E̍̈̑͏̙͚̞̰̰Eͬ͒́ͮ́Ę̭͉͇͚̘Ẹ̃ͪ̇͑̂E̯̘͍͌̑̈E̬͓̦̰͋͆̐̏̽E̪̥̞̥ͫ̈ͧẼ̙̤͖̠̣̾ͩ̏E͆͋ͭ҉̼E̸̙ͧ̚E͚͚͔̐ͨ̾̑ͤR̨͈͓͖͌Ṙ̷͛R̩͖͘R̘̩̘̟̖̊̑R̪̰͍ͮ̃͗͐ͅR͈͔̫̞͎̗̀R̊R̠ͤ̅ͯ͑̈͞R̭͕͙ͪ̍ͥR̝͓̥̦ͩ̀͌́̓̎ͣR̶̦̙̠̤̟̰͗̇R̠R̢̞̞̼̪͇̐R͖͉̝̠̔R͖̘̺̲͎̄̏̋͐͋Y͉̑ͪ̓"͎̯̙̻̓͗ͯͥ
No one could have really predicted that his frustration and exhaustion would cause something strange to happen. A strange pattern appeared on his body, a strange, pulsating red color. The air around in the room would suddenly suffer an increase in temperature as his eyes appeared to glow with strange outlines moving like fire from them. He angrily pointed at Veil first.

Then it happened. All the fancy show and everything went away. The strange tattoos, the heat, the distorted voice, and the strange eyes. Lagnia had spent the fumes he was running on, and barely made a single step towards the door before collapsing. He groaned in pain, right before everything in his world went black. "έλεος....."

Dusk had come very close to drawing one of his and shooting Lagnia. However, after he calmed down and promptly passed out, he relaxed a little bit. "Um, what was that?" Dusk asked to no one in particular. He at least was glad Lagnia did become hostile during... Whatever it was he did. It didn't help that he was unfamiliar with Kirin.

Whatever had just happened had happened pretty quickly. Acrimony put the time at somewhere under a minute.

Acrimony considered that the kirin -- Lagnia, was it? -- was infected or partially possessed by some sort of spirit or elemental. It had happened to her on a couple of occasions long ago, but she had witnessed nothing like this for at least five years now. It could have been anything, really, and Acrimony wasn't even sure if he was still breathing or not. A dead customer this early could seriously ruin her plans. She verified that the kirin was still breathing with a cautious probe of her telekinesis, a bright magenta glow flickering and sliding over Lagnia's face and chest. He just seemed to be out cold, as far as she could tell.

With a rather alarming clunk and a series of tinkling noises, Acrimony stood up to her full height, looking ridiculously stretched out and thin compared to the other, less gravity-deficient persons present. She started to make her way over to Lagnia, still not quite sure of what she had just seen and heard.

Now she wasn't so sure if he was such a good candidate for spending two cycles in confined quarters.

But first, she had to help him. But he was heavier than expected and she couldn't focus properly and she was afraid of dropping him as she floated him over to a clearer space. Several of the restaurant's staff and all of the visitors were more or less staring at what was going on.

Viola was about to answer Acrimony’s question, but the sudden outburst from the kirin made her pause, and probably scoot back a bit towards the unicorn. She watched as Acrimony got up, seeing how thin she was and now finally realizing why she really needed those supports. “She’s a pony who spent her whole life without gravity. I guess I better get used to seeing things like this.” She watched Acrimony move the kirin. “Though I don’t think what he did was normal in any way.” She decided to wait on answering the question until things quieted down a bit.

"Okay, so that was fucked the hell up. Seriously, can't ya at least have the decency to go crazy in a language ponies can understand?" Tinder huffed, finally having her attention drawn away from Lunatic. For a bit. Perhaps she could just ignore her long enough to get through this trip. She needed to get out somewhere fresh, someplace with some new opportunities for a bit of hunting, and Degree here was starting to dry up.
"Miss Acrimony, if you can settle him on my back we can carry him somewhere a bit better to check him over. It's way too crowded in here to even hope to examine his craziness. If he's dying or something I'd rather we be on the way out of town rather than waiting for some kind a' law and order shows up. I'm not exactly interested in ponies asking those sorts of questions. They're annoying at best, especially when I know I'm innocent. So. Ship, now then? You can take the bowl with you, it's mine."

The kirin lolled in her telekinetic grip as Acrimony turned around abruptly to face loose Tinder.

There were many stares pointed in the group's general direction from the rest of the restaurant. Acrimony didn't like that. What was there to like? Why did it always have to be like this? She thought about apologising somehow but thought that useless.

And yes. Law and order would follow soon. Not happy times, not at all. Especially not twice in the same week, Celestia forbid. She blinked at that thought.

Absentmindedly, Acrimony nodded. "Well, shit," she sighed. Staying was a terrible idea. Screw it if more people showed up for the flight. Everyone had to get going, preferably now.

"Hey, uh, guys? I have to agree with her." Lagnia's limp body was positioned roughly onto Tinder's back with an inconstant, nervously wavering field of levitation. Acrimony grabbed a small saddlebag from under the table and began to put it on hurriedly while also trying to keep her bowl of soup up in the air beside her. "Come on. We're going uptown, folks." Acrimony grimaced as she glanced at each of the people who had signed up for the expedition. They would have to worry about everything later, just as soon as they got the unconscious fire-talent out of the establishment.

Dusk thought he might as well follow. He needed a ride on that ship, and avoiding the authorities might be best in this case. At least if they did have to talk to authorities, it would be an inconvenience at most.

Viola said nothing. She had no idea what to say. Seeing Acrimony prepare to leave, she stood up and looked around at those who were staring. She really wished she had Sunny's intimidation factor, but that wouldn't help either. Instead, she covered her head with the hood of her cloak and quickly made her way outside, waiting for the others.

So yeah. Not the best way to start off.

Acrimony had a simple shield up around the front of the restaurant, a half-hearted magenta glow that was strong enough to catch the worst of the rainfall for anyone standing near the entranceway. Ice pellets pinged off of and sometimes passed through it. It was refreshing to be standing outside with little to no precipitation in the way.

Her headache pulsed somewhere behind her left eye as Acrimony looked around the brightly lit-up street. The typical garish colours of a twilight town, made to contrast against the constant gloom of night, had the unfortunate side effect of making her eyes hurt.

"We're gonna go to the curveway, straight up track twenty-two." Acrimony pointed spinwards with a flare of illumination. One of the curving 'spiral staircases' of Circlet 3 was visible close by, a plank-and-railing construction that curved upwards towards the hub. It was just a few hundred feet distant, a few minutes' walk through the narrow main street of this town. Getting to the docks were just a matter of walking up the curveway, which would steepen the higher one got, the reduced gravity in the upper levels allowing for steeper steps and hops until gravity no longer became relevant for locomotion.

Acrimony really wanted up. Her knees weren't liking being this far down.

The wheel spun on, tracing a path through the thinning clouds.

Degree 43. That name probably came from the average temperature if Mittere’s sample was worth anything. Cold weather gave her an excuse to dress up, but she’d still forestalled her rendezvous in the hopes it would pass, not wanting to catch the wet in addition to the cold. It was not meant to be however, so it seemed at least. Things looked to have improved little with her waiting. She would be late without good cause. It wouldn’t be the end of her world if she missed the meet up though , nothing really was for her. As the weather began to show at least the first signs of a little improvement, Mittere dared to venture out of her shelter. Intuition told her she was late by now, but she guessed that she could beat a slow group to the docks if she moved with purpose. She knew at least the ship’s name too, so she could poke around and find it. She magical tightened the robe closer to her and raised the hood as she stepped out. Getting to the docks involved going up the stairs, so to the stairs she went.

The mare’s travel was interrupted as she spotted a group of ponies seeming to be going toward the upper levels, one of them with a stallion on their back. The curiousness certainly stunned her enough to not go forth and ask just what was going on, but not enough to stop her from approaching. She wouldn’t say anything as she walked behind the group. She was just going the same way, a pony on her business. The group could either let her through, or live with her being behind them.

It was cold outside, as per usual. The damp and the rain seemed to have cleared the streets of people for the most part. Not many people stayed out in these conditions unless they had a task to do or a place to get to. The few people she could see out on the street had that sailor look about them.

The soup hovered by Acrimony's side, bobbing to her fast-paced, long-legged walk. Houses and establishments seemed to blur past achingly slowly to her. The brightly-coloured walls and intense lighting on those few inhabited structures were meant to banish the ever-present shadows of the town's dark undersurface. That just seemed to reinforce the relative isolation of the settlement. Bright wooden squares of light and warmth beckoned among the decrepit, decaying frameworks of abandoned decades-old buildings. The town was, after all, just a recolonized ghost town that was only just starting to pick up some steam.

Acrimony thought the sky was lightening to a slightly less intimidating shade of dark indigo. The rain was weakening now as well. Less clouds. It was still going to be wet though. Maybe the Micrathene 5 wouldn't have to take off in complete darkness through engine-clogging water for the first few hours of its journey.

There was a hooded pony walking behind the flight-goers. Someone who was headed to the docks, maybe. Was the pony looking in their direction? They were a group of mismatched foreigners walking together with an unconscious kirin in tow. Not the best way to parade about.

Striking up some friendly conversation, Acrimony thought, might be a way to remedy the situation.

"Terrible day for flying, eh?"

Dusk also noticed the newcomer that was following behind them, though he decided to remain silent for now. He had his attention on her though, just in case she was some sort of criminal and decided to be bold. It paid to be careful in towns like this, in fact it paid to be careful in every town and city. At least Acrimony was trying to speak with her, which would help ascertain whether or not she was friendly enough.

Mittere raised her head slightly as she was spoken to, or at least she figured she was from the awkward chiselling of the ice. She frowned and was surprised that she was spoken to by the seemingly friendly mare. She didn’t like it, they sharing stairs, they weren’t friends. That didn’t stop her from being pleasant though. She nodded slowly. “There are times when circumstances are not so patient as to wait, and the choice is taken from you.” That was all she really had to say, and that was to humor the other mare. If she replied then Mittere would, but she not very invested in the conversation. The soup looked nice, but it was hardly the epitome of fine cooking. She could talk about that if needed, but getting where she wanted mattered the most.

"Such melodrama. She was just making conversation, not asking for your whole life's philosophy, ya know." Tinder dared to glance back at the mare, nonchalantly keeping a grip on her impromptu passenger. She turned to give a preemptive glare to her mother though, anticipating some sort of response to that. "I tell ya, some ponies...and don't you dare look at me like that Lunatic, and no, don't even ask how. You know what you're doing."

Viola stayed quiet, not really knowing what to say at this point. So instead, she just settled for looking around. Having never really seen anything like this... whatever kind of city this was, she was amazed by it. It was probably obvious by the look on her face, but she just enjoyed the sights.

Acrimony began to take her first steps up the wood-woven spiral path, boosting herself with some levitation and with some gear-grinding sound effects. Physical exertion under gravity while using magic was aggravating her headache more than the fresh air was helping.

"Looks like the clouds are letting up, though," Acrimony noted out loud, ignoring Tinder's comment. She hoped it wouldn't be this bad for the whole trip. Tinder was right though. Acrimony didn't really get the gist of what that hooded figure had said, and she wasn't all that sure it was meant to be taken seriously.

It looked like someone was enjoying herself though. The circumstances were about as bleak as the meteorological conditions, but Viola had a somewhat contented look about her. She looked to be taking in the scenery. Acrimony looked around the town from their curveway vantage point. The roofs of every occupied building shone with colours and lights, often decorated with miniature gardens and almost always bearing a series of colourful flags that wavered in the spinwind. The majority of the abandoned and decaying buildings of this particular circlet lay vacant and dark. Many frontier towns tended to be like this, taking shelter in already-present ruins and fortifications.Acrimony knew for a fact that Torias, the nation they were going to fly to, had many more quasi-abandoned towns and many ruins. She approached Viola slowly, wanting to start up some conversation.

By this time, Acrimony had finished almost all of her soup on the fly. She wanted to finish the last dregs ere gravity weakened too much to keep the liquid in the bowl. Already she was feeling lighter. It might have been around ⅘ standard gees already. Pretty soon they would all be hopping a dozen yards every step, barely touching any surfaces. She wanted to get her wings out again, just for a brief while before her obligations drew her away.

Warm, orange-red lights poked through gaps in the omnipresent cloud cover. Very distant suns traced out their spheres of luminary influence, redshifted through hundreds of miles of air. It cast an ominous crimson glow on the path ahead, stretching everyone's shadows out behind them. Acrimony thought she deserved some sunlight. It had been a few weeks since she had felt anything but amber lamplight on her coat, thick and smoky incandescent light on her eyes for hours and hours. She would treat herself with a few days outside in fresh, unfiltered Torian sunlight, maybe breathe some air that wouldn't freeze her lungs. That all seemed too far away all of a sudden. She shook herself out of her reverie and continued trotting on, her horn fizzling pink.

Then an inquiry came to mind. "How many of you people have been to Torias before?" It looked to her like many of these people were passing through from far away, not likely to have been in these skies before.

There was a time Mittere might have spat back at the kirin in her own way, truth be told it was in her nature to do it, but it was also an equal part of her not to. After a few moments of collection and negotiation all of her agreed that being aloof would be fun. “Baseless chatter rarely provokes comments of worth. Any words spoken should have purpose and meaning. Lacking one is acceptable, but both is wasteful of time and the mental expenditure required. Discredit my words with arguments any of following times you have such thoughts.” After replying to the kirin with some real philosophy, she turned her head in a direction where he face would be hidden and smiled in self congratulation.

The mare then remained silent for a while, thinking about how good it felt to be free once more. How everywhere had different lighting, sounds, and feelings in the form of gravity, she felt lucky to be alive in such a time where conditions were so different from place to place. The stimulation kept her mind active, and she needed that. Mittere certainly had to think about the question regarding Torias, had she been or did she just know it? Did she know it or was she just confusing it with some similar sounding place in her often cluttered mind? The exact destination could possibly change her answer too. “Not in its present condition.” It was a strange answer, but still a no. She then made her own causal inquiry. “That is the destination you are taking the one you have kidnapped?”

"I've been to Torias before, though it was only in passing to complete a mission," Dusk said. He was finding the walk towards the center not so enjoyable. He was built for normal gravity and could take the stronger gravity of some places. Low gravity was not his thing, as he could already feel his steps becoming exaggerated.

Viola watched as the clouds parted. "Aw. I wanted some of that cloud. Oh well." She turned to Acrimony and gave her a friendly smile. This trip would undoubtedly be good for her. Whatever business Sunny had in this rather odd world, this pony's only job would be friendship. Though, Viola wasn't really good at that, even before the augmentation. Oh well, she can try at least.

Upon hearing Acrimony's question, she was snapped out of her thoughts. "Um, I can't say I've heard of such a place. What's it like?" She wondered if everywhere looked this amazing. Or at least to her eyes.

"Mmmmm, Torian bayleaf...hey, Acrimony, where are we spending most of our time? Major or Minor? There's lots of nice fresh stuff in Torias Major, sure, but it takes a lot of work to make stuff like that actually keep. Minor's got a great market for preserved food. I think someone was even trying to get a cumin farm going last time I was there, I wonder how it's flavored there." Tinder sighed a bit, smiling at the thought. Cumin wasn't really that common, and spices were like a fine wine: It often mattered more where the plants were grown more than it did what ingredients you threw in.
Unlike most of her compatriots, apparently, Tinder took naturally to the shifting strength of gravity as she traveled. Perhaps it was because traveling was what she had always done. Perhaps it was genetic (and it was quite obvious to her that Lunatic was equally unbothered by this). Perhaps it was just another quirk of her rather bizarre biology, which would be wholly unsurprising.
"Though I do see someone doesn't have enough social skills to bother with polite conversation. You sound nearly as robotic as Lunatic here. Oh, and for your information this wee lad here paid for the trip. He just apparently can't handle seeing a dragon. I'm sure we'll put a spine in him somehow."

Lagnia shifted with each movement of Tinder, laying unconscious as the kirin continued walking with the group. He was lightly jostled by the movement, but when they hit the sudden shift of gravity, something, specifically the fluids in Lagnia's inner ear, shifted in response to the lowered gravity. First came the twitches, once per limb. Then came the full body convulsions. He only had about three of them before his eyes snapped open, and he looked around in a panic. "Who shut off the gravitational field? Someone get down to the..." He suddenly realized where he was, then sighed. "Ms. Tinder, you may let me go. I apologize for inconveniencing you."
