In the beginning, Equinity rose above the power of nature instead of being conquered by it, only the power of the wind, the force of the tides, and the pull of the stars could deprive him of its power… causing him to stretch out his hooves towards the heavens in defiance.
But their arrogance unleashed the tremendous forces of nature and soon, the very elements that guided them had transformed the face of Equus…
A terrifying maelstrom, a perversion of Harmony and Order, of Chaos and Trickery. It was raw destructive force, born of the very ideals once forged to combat it.
But at the eye if the storm, on a serene island, there rested a simple cottage. Forever locked in a moment, a time capsule momentous.... It was The Decision. The turning point, at which the Elements chose to become the destructive force they are present day. Very quickly, the threat of utter annihilation became apparent, and those who led Equinity were split by differing ideology.. To destroy those who held the elements, those who had once guided and protected equinity… or to hold them above the many, to protect them at the potential cost of all of creation.
Regardless whether mercy or ruthlessness rested in the heart of the first intruder to shatter that moment, it would be here that either side would achieve their aims. For it was this shard of time, this singular moment at which the Elements were their most vulnerable, both physically and emotionally.
And here would be either their salvation, or their destruction.
And so, the ponies brought to bear their fearsome technology, their airships, cannons, and magic. A war over the skies would take place, for it was in the skies where each goal lay. Woven throughout the storm were numerous points if calm, locations in which outposts could be made, courses could be charted. Securing these points were necessary for supplied and ships to be sent to the heart of the maelstrom. These "Bubbles" as most soldiers called them were separated form each other by walls upon walls of storm, some more traversal be than others. It was impossible to travel from the edge to the center without one's ship being torn apart, but in hopping from Bubble to Bubble lay a very real possibility of reaching The Eye.
Ships were made, and canons were assembled. The forces of Sun and Moon clashed over the Bubbles, both large and small. After the first year of fighting, each side had a small, heavily defensible foothold in each discovered bubble. The rest was a sprawling mess of mountaintop bases the two sides clashed over.
Like the game this thread is based off of, there are three roles an OC can choose to occupy. In the game, they are largely identical in function and control aside from their tool loadout, in this thread, classes are more… binding. For example, a gunner wouldn’t know how to repair the balloon, but would probably know how to repair his own weapons, whilst an engineer could repair everything on the ship as is their job, but, couldn’t shoot with the same skill the gunner has. The same goes for the pilot, who can steer the ship very effectively, but, cannot repair it like an engineer would be able to, or, operate its weaponry like the gunner would.
The three classes are also further identifiable by their general attire. The pilot typically wears noble, expensive clothing. The engineer typically dresses more practically, with pockets and safety equipment hanging from their overalls. The gunner, on the other hoof, wears more battle-oriented armor, which is more often than not made from salvaged enemy wares.
The engineer is the most adept and versatile crewman when it comes to maintaining and repairing the ship. An engineer's job is to extinguish fires,to repair, to rebuild, and to enhance the ship's components. An engineer may also be called upon to man the guns of an airship but will lack the versatility of the Gunner's spread of weapon modifications.
Gunners specialize in taking control of an airship's weapons and attacking enemy crafts. A gunner can switch between three different types of ammunition as the situation dictates, or make use of other weapons aboard the ship during a gun's automated reloading period to make full use of the ship's damage output. Gunners also carry a repair tool into battle, but, lacking the versatility of repair tools needed for complex repair work, they will often resort to maintaining only their weapons.
The pilot is best suited to flying the airship because of the role's two extra equipment slots for the job. The pilot is frequently synonymous with the role of the Captain, however, pilots are not restricted to being the Captain, and Captains are not restricted to piloting. The Pilot's abilities focus on aerial maneuvers.
Each Discovered Bubble has two heavily defensible bases for each side. Between them lays sprawling ruins, pillars of rock, and abandoned mountainside bases that ships can claim and fuel up at. Both sides have access to the Spire and Junker ship types, which are crewed by NPC's. Spires act as turrets, Junkers carry five extra ponies, who are there to claim territory. Claiming a territory requires getting 1 Junker and 1 Spire to it safely. If both are destroyed the territory is open for being taken.
All crew members have teleport harnesses keyed to the nearest Primary Base in that bubble. The harnesses are keyed to ships while within the Maelstrom, unless the ship is destroyed in which case it goes to the nearest bubble. When ships are destroyed, their crews are stuck at the nearest base until a new one can be either refitted or built. Near where he pilot stands in the communication array, which allows the ship to communicate with the rest of the fleet. This can be damaged and repaired.
