Saying Hello and Discussing RP Ideas

Hello everyone, I'm thatguyvex, a writer over on FiMFiction and an on/off roleplayer who hasn't been in a forum rp for a few years, but certainly had a lot of fun with this kind of thing before. Now aside from simply introducing myself, I decided to make this thread to talk about possible rp ideas I've had, but want to flesh out and also see if there's even anyone interested in them before I make an actual thread for them. Hopefully this is an okay spot to do this as I didn't really see a part of the forum that's for discussing an rp.

So, my particular love in rp's are crossovers, and while i'm also usually down for more regular rp, my mind always wanders towards various types of crossovers. As such my first set of ideas for possible MLP rps are also crossovers with other series, and I want to see who might be interested in what. So here's just the top three series I'm thinking of to possibly make an rp for:

Bleach
A mange/anime in which the afterlife is a world where powerful warriors and protectors of the dead called Shinigami protect the balance between life and death by battling corrupted souls called Hollows. The series is pure shounen action with a fair chunk of mysticism and eastern mythology thrown into the mix. In crossing this over with MLP my intention would be to do it as a fusion, where the concepts and ideas behind the way the afterlife works in Bleach are put into the MLP universe, and I'd probably run the plot around either OCs or perhaps people playing the Mane 6 themselves, as the existence of this afterlife is discovered and the characters get drawn into the conflict between Shinigami and Hollows. For those familiar with Bleach I'd be willing to allow them to play Shinigami or other Bleach oriented groups (still decided how organizations like the Quincy, Vizards, and Arrancar will fit into the fused world history) but for simplicity it'd be easiest to just have folk play characters who are just discovering all of this stuff for the first time.

Super Robot Wars
This is a rather long running video game series that are turn based strategy games involving, what else, giant robots! Many robots from actual anime series are used, but the company that makes the series, Banpresto, has also created a host of original mecha and characters for the various games. In the MLP crossover rp I'm thinking of the backstory would revolve around characters from the Original Generations games (since they're the ones I'm most familiar with, being the only ones of the series to be translated into English) being either pulled into Equestria via an accident, or a more stable portal being created between the two worlds. From there players would be taking on the role of Equestrians making first contact with the humans. The rp would at first just focus on getting the two groups used to each other, but soon enough there would be enemy factions from the SRW series showing up to cause trouble, leading to the ponies needing to help the humans fight back, learning to pilot mecha of their own or even developing their own.

Fallout Equestria
It is technically a crossover, and it's a setting that still very much tickles my imagination. There was an rp board for the setting back on FiMFiction before rping got banned over there, so I'm more than willing and interested in just setting up some FoE realted rps if there happen to be folk around here that'd be interested.

Anyway, perhaps no one is all that interested in a crossover RP? I don't mind trying something more conventional, I just happen to have a love of crossovers and most of my ideas revolve around them. Or perhaps you guys just want a few more details about how these crossover RPs would work? I admit I was holding off working out too many details until I got an idea if anyone was interested in one or the other, hoping to gauge interest before I really committed to an idea.

That said if no one likes the notion of a crossover RP I can also go for something more standard, I'm just not familiar with what kind of RPs are currently going on around here. Still, no rush, I'm just happy to introduce myself.

Knowing people around here are the original FOE setting not the most popular one, a lot of discussion of lore and such comes up each and every time parts of it is mentioned in our little lovely chat...

But oddly enough are people always nicely lining up each and every time that there are a Fallout themed game in the planning

I do not know if you can remember any of the good old games from our old FoE RP group, but I think that if one of them could be revived between the two (or more) of us could we start a little bit of FoE up around here.

Hello there, sorry I didn't post here sooner Vex, I've had quite the busy holiday season (and my computer exploded) so I didn't see this sooner. I have to say if Doom says you're an excellent RPer I take that as a high recommendation/compliment.

Market here, and pardon the wait, Vex. Forumotion just doesn't notify as well as FiMfic does when new threads are made, and I'm frankly too used to that to remember to actually check the Forum regularly for things such as this or new RPing threads.

That said, I have a couple of things I'd like to inform you, and one of them is that I HIGHLY encourage you make use of our Cloudsdale.org chat which is constantly available in every page right under the menu icons for discussing things in near real time, which most of us agree is a far more effective means of communication and idea crunching. We also have a Skype group to serve a similar purpose as the chat in case that doesn't work.

Second... You had me at Super Robot Wars. I am fairly familiar with the series in that I played the OG games in the GBA and the English patch of SRW J. Plus, I happen to find the series and Mecha fascinating even if my knowledge on many of them is limited... I've been meaning to make an SRW based thread, not quite like yours though as far as meeting series characters go though, but only once I finish some of the ones currently running as this is something I intend to personally run from beginning to end. I'd be happy to discuss more in the chat, but do know you have at least one person who knows how an SRW thread can be made around here.

I'd be all up for that. I was having quite a bit of fun with my minotaur character Maze. I've had a few thoughts on a FoE RP centered around salvage operations in a city that got hit with an experimental zebra megaspell that wasn't balefire, but rather a bomb that distorted space/time, turning the city into a warped labyrinth of portals, extra-dimensional monsters, and general weirdness. Ponies still try to salvage there, though, because the megaspell's other side effect is that time moves more slowly in the city, causing all the tech inside it to be preserved to practically be as new as the day the bomb hit, so anything salvaged from there is intact and fully functional.

I can definitely pop into the chat, though one of the reasons I do forum RPs is that I got a pretty busy life, so I can afford to hop on and spend an hour doing an RP post, then get to work or other things. My biggest blocks of free time are on Thursdays or Sundays, so those're the times you'll most likely see me crop up on the chat.

Ah, good to see another SRW fan. Like you I played the OG games that were on the GBA, though I didn't know SRW J had an English patch. I've played Alpha 2 and the more recent OG 2nd that got released on PS3, but only so I can enjoy the fun battles and music, sadly can't read the Japanese. I just sort of made up the story as I went along. My own knowledge isn't anywhere near complete, but hey, that's what Wiki's are for. Anyway if you're intending to start up an SRW thread at some point count me in for that. As for my own ideas, well, I'm pretty flexible on the details. My initial thought was that having one of the ships from the OG series getting sucked into Equestria would be a straightforward way to introduce the tech and concepts, but I'd be just as interested in doing a full on fusion of the two world's lores. If I'm remembering right the Mecha tech in the OG series comes from the crash of Meteor 3, which was basically an alien ship with all sorts of high tech stuff humanity used to push their own tech forward (a lot like Robotech's backstory, now that I think about it. Probably a very intentional parallel). The same thing could have happened in Equestria, with the ponies incorporating their magic into the alien tech to create their own version of the Extra Over Technology.

I can get that. So what sort of RPs do you usually like to do Vex? Also do you have a character submitted to the group yet?

I haven't submitted a character yet, no, mainly because I wasn't sure what kind of RPs I'd end up getting involved in yet. As for what kind I like, I'm really pretty laid back and open minded so I can't really say that I have specific preferences. I'm willing to try just about anything.

If you have something in mind for RP. I'd be happy to join... so long as its group. I don't mix well with private threads.

Well, as I said, I was thinking of some kind of crossover styled RP involving mixing MLP with either Bleach or Super Robot Wars, but I'm not really sure if anyone around here has a lot of interest in crossovers. Though Mr. Market has expressed interested in the SRW crossover possibility. Then there's Fallout Equestria, which I did some RP for back in FiMFiction before RPing got banned there, and Doomande said this would be a good spot to do that if people were interested.

That is correct. Though it's more than likely I'll take a crack at GMing an SRW thread of my own devising further on once I've gotten some of my own older threads with others concluded. Which is more than likely a few months from now, or by Summer most likely. By the way, Vex, I suggest you talk to either Lightning Shield or Sword Symphony about thread ideas involving Bleach at least. As for Fallout, several here can give hints, but most notably Doomande himself and Obsidian. That said, interests may very well vary as, aside from the SRW concept, all of the crossovers you mentioned have been attempted in some fashion; Especially Fallout. You may well need to be quite creative to captivate an audience here with fresh or improved ideas, so all the more reason to discuss with the people mentioned to see what hasn't been tried yet.

P.S.: A reminder that most of us gather on Skype. If you can hop in at least briefly once in a while, it would help with discussions more smoothly in general. Though I'm just repeating myself at this point.

I would like to point out this is something you need not fear. Infact, there have been lots of crossovers in the past and currently the one I'm participating in is a crossover of Kingdom Hearts and MLP.

I would join these threads, but I have no idea what Bleach and SRW are like. Though if SRW is anything even close to Neon Genesis Evangelion or Zone of the Enders: Dolores, I would love to participate in it!

I'd be down for bleach anyday. As for SRW, if you can link me, I can educate myself on the matter enough to probably join that too.
