Alpha Protocol was once an agent for the most powerful intelligence agency in Equestria, but soon left and found himself working as a private investigator. It was a job he thought would be fun and full of drama as he helped ponies find loved ones, or solve mysterious cases of thievery and murder.

However, he'll soon find that the task he's taken involves a lot less action and drama than he was expecting. And even though he'd like to refuse these jobs, he has no other way to make ends meet than to accept these annoyingly mundane jobs.

Alpha currently sits in his office, a small rented space near downtown Manehatten. He's reading the local paper and smoking a cigarette, his eyes scanning the articles for any potential cases. Just his luck, crimes been down for the past few months. He would have to get another job if he couldn't get any clients soon.

There was a knock on Alpha's office door, warning the pony that there was someone who was going to open it. And open the door they did. As the door opened, a light brown pegasus stallion could be seen. He had a light gray mane and were wearing goggles. On his left shoulder was a shoulder pad and on that shoulder pad was an owl that looked to be made entirely of metal. The only hit of magic was it's white eyes that stared directly at Alpha. "Uh...You're Alpha Protocol right? The private investigator? I have a case for you. My mouse has went missing and I can't find him anywhere." The stallion said, rubbing the back of his neck with a hoof. "'Course, if you don't have time I can always try and find him myself, but I've searched everywhere where he might be."

Alpha looked up from his newspaper and blew a cloud of smoke. He looked at the small mechanical owl and blinked, considering he had probably seen stranger. "That's me." He said when asked who he was. A case would be great! Maybe now he could pay his bills! "... Wait, did you say mouse?"

Clockwork nodded at Alpha when he asked his question. "Yeah. A mouse. Made of metal like Peter here." He raised a hoof an pointed to the owl on his shoulder. "He always stays on my head and when he can't he's always near me. When I woke up today, he wasn't there and I couldn't find him." The owl on his shoulder hooted a bit shifting on the shoulder pad. The pegasus scrunched up his face a bit and looked at the owl. "What is up with you Peter?" He muttered before shaking his head. "So uh...Will you take the case?"

Alpha sighed and put his cigarette out in the nearby ashtray. "I don't normally do missing pet cases." He said, looking curiously at the owl. "Can't you get animal control to help you out? It's kind of their job." He folds the newspaper and sets it aside.

Clockwork frowned a bit in thought. "I somewhat doubt animal control considers him." He pointed a hoof at the owl. "And Reginald, the mouse, pets. Maybe metal constructs to sate a mad pony's need to make 'living' metal beings." He tapped a hoof to his muzzle for a moment, thinking. "Or in my case, a random inventor wanting to make up for the deaths of his real physical fleshy pets. But if you really insist, I'll just leave." The owl happily hooted for bit before flying off the shoulder pad and out the door, it's wings glowing in a faint blue glow. The pegasus watched the owl fly out for a moment before sighing and shaking his head.

Alpha sighed and looked at the pony as he started to leave. "Alright, fine. I'll do it." He said. "But I am going to need an initial payment of one hundred bits." He stated, pulling out a small logbook and a pen and starting to write in it. "... Small mouse... mechanical... Reginald... And your name is?"

Clockwork smiled at Alpha. "Hmm...Alright. I guess that makes sense." He said, puling out a small bag of bits from his saddlebags. He threw it onto Alpha's desk with a small grin. "The name's Clockwork Owl and thanks a bunch." The mechanical owl flew back into the room and stared at Alpha for a moment before giving a hoot in alarm. It flew around Clockwork for a moment before landing on the shoulder pad. The pegasus lifted his googles out of the way of his eyes and stared at the owl. The owl seemed to back up a bit under the stallion's gaze.

Alpha nods and makes more notes in his book. "Mhmm. And, Mister Owl, when and where was the last place you saw Reginald?" He asked. Perhaps the mouse was somewhere nearby one of those places. How far could he have gotten, right? "Also, I'm going to need to know his mannerisms."

Clockwork winced a bit as he heard Alpha call him Owl. "Last place? Hmm." He thought about it for a moment, tapping a hoof to his muzzle. "That would have to be last night when I was working at my workbench in my home. I was getting ready to head to bed and gave him a pat on his little metal head before flopping down on my bed. I was awfully tired and didn't even check to see if he was in his little bed on my nightstand. When I woke up, he was gone. And his mannerisms...Well he likes helping me out. That's also why he tends to stay close to me, never leaving my side until I tell him to."

Alpha nods and tucks his logbook in his jacket. "Alright. Do you mind if we go there?" He asks, placing another cigarette in his mouth and grabbing his lighter. "I'll need to look for clues before I make any determinations."

Clockwork nodded at Alpha. "No not at all." He said, turning to leave, but he paused when he saw the other stallion put another cigarette in his mouth. "But um...I do mind if you could kindly get rid of the cigar when we get to my home. I hate the smell and it makes it hard for me to focus." He turned and left the office, leading Alpha back to his home, his owl decided it wanted to fly after them from behind.

When they got to the house, Clockwork opened the door and stepped inside, then immediately turned right into a short hallway with a door at the end of it. He opened said door and walked down a flight of stairs that was on the other side. If Alpha looked or even cared, he would notice that there was a bird cage next to the door along with a mouse cage on the ground next to a mouse hole. Down the stairs was a small room with a table, a workbench, and a wall filled with random tools. "On the right side of the workbench is where Reginald usually is and where he was when I went to bed. Can't miss it, there's a tiny bed there." Sure enough, there was indeed a tiny bed there.

Alpha followed Clockwork all the way to his home, disposing of his cigarette before entering and then looking around at the workstation. There was, indeed, a small little mouse sized bed. He listened to how the pony used his space and observed it accordingly, taking a look around for possible clues. "What kind of work do you do?" He asks, looking mainly around the area of the small bed.

Alpha would find that there were slight claw marks near the small bed. It would be hard for someone to notice it if they weren't actively looking at them. In the middle of the workbench, the mechanical owl landed, looking at Alpha. It gave a hoot at him. Clockwork stood near the stairs, looking at Alpha do the owl for a moment. "Hmm. Well my work includes being a librarian actually. Whenever I have some free time I'm always down here trying to invent things to make my life easier." He shrugged and leaned against the wall.

"Interesting." Alpha said, observing the claw marks. He then looks curiously at the owl, a fascinating piece of clockwork "Say, how strong would you say Reginald was?" He asks, giving an inquisitive look at the owl and looking back at the claw marks.

Clockwork gave Alpha a curious look before zoning off to think about the question. He stayed quiet for a few moments, humming. "I...actually don't know what so ever. He's a mix between metal and magic, same as Peter there. I haven't tested how strong they were nor do I plan to. But if I had to guess, Reginald could probably easily lift a small box of nuts and bolts, open a door, I don't know. Why do you ask?"

Alpha felt where the scratches were, and then looked at the owl. "Yeah, I thought so." He turns around and walks over to Clockwork. "Alright. I think I have an idea of where Reginald is." He states.

The owl backed away from Alpha when he looked at it. Clockwork raises an eyebrow at Alpha for a moment, pulling himself away from the wall. "Oh? Do you now? Well then where is my dear little helper?" He reached up and pulled down his goggles so they were over his eyes. He glanced behind the other pegasus for a moment at his owl before turning his full attention to him.

Alpha nods and puts a hoof to his chin. "Well, my most educated guess at the moment is..." He turns and points accusingly at the owl with his hoof. "The owl ate him!" He says, giving the owl a deathly glare.

The owl gave a confused hoot, lifting a wing and pointing it to itself. Clockwork stared at Alpha with a leveled gaze for a moment before shaking his head. "That would be an excellent guess...If they were flesh and bones and could physically eat something. Mr Protocol, the both of them are made of metal with a dash of magic in them. They don't eat, they don't need to eat and they aren't able to eat. I made them that way so Peter didn't try to eat Reginald like his fleshy counter part did. Even so, I made it very very very clear what I would do to him him if he did mess with poor Reginald." He shook his head with a shake. "Good guess though."

Alpha clears his throat and looks away from the owl. "Yes, well... It was just a guess..." He says. "But I have more questions. Do you know where these scratch marks are from? Are they from your work?" He eyes the scratches more inquisitively.

Clockwork walked over to Alpha and looked at his workbench, running a hoof over the scratch marks. "Scratch marks huh? They could be from my work. Could be from Peter or Reginald. I don't tend to pay attention to them unless they're directly effecting me." He gave a shrug. He eyed the marks for a moment before shaking his head. "Yeah...Sorry I don't know about these marks. Though I'm pretty sure they weren't there yesterday...Then again I can't be sure." He let out a sigh and hung his head. "Sorry I can't be of more help."

Alpha shakes his head and keeps looking around the room for more clues. He observes the area around the desk more closely, looking at the bed and remembering the little details. He then remembers seeing a cage and a mousehole and deciedes to go and look at those. "You say he would always stay by your side?" He asks.
