Diamond sighed. "Angel..." He was serious now. He rarely ever used her real name outside of private conversation. "War may be inevitable at this point. If another nation sent these assassins, we'll have to be prepared to retaliate. It's a natural state of affairs. Which brings me to..."

Diamond turned to Ashen, a stern look in his eyes. His voice was harsh as he reprimanded Ashen. "Our country's equipment situation. Ashen, you know full well that there aren't many good bronze smiths left around. My bronze blade was actually forged for combat hundreds of years ago. Most of our 'weapons' and 'armor' are parade pieces and relics that belong in a museum. Our distinct lack of wartime materials is disturbing. Bronze weapons, if forged properly, are some of the strongest around, but they're extremely heavy, making them harder to use compared to iron or steel. To compound the matter, barely any of our soldiers have seen actual combat, making going to war, fighting off an invading force, or fighting off a few ponies who are equipped and know how to fight nearly impossible. We were lucky that these wanderers were here to fight off these ponies. What we have isn't enough anymore. Now then, Ashen, if you have anything else to say, hold your tongue. I will not hear any more brainless banter out of your mouth."

Blade had missed most of the conversation while he ate his food. It was the best thing he had since well forever! He probably could have eaten everything one the table if he was allowed. Yet, the sudden change of the atomsphere of when Diamond spoke made him pause and stop his eating. The food that hovered around him stood still and most being put back to where they were originally were, but the blow grapes stayed. He liked grapes. The colt kept his head low and waited for the adults to start talking again, eating one grape at a time now and making sure to chew slowly to make sure that they lasted long enough.

The furnishings on the way were not quite extravagant, but they would look mildly expensive as the maid moved quickly through the corridors. The maid placed Faerie gently on the ground inside the hall, before bowing and departing without saying a word. Divine waved to her in greeting, a gentle smile on her lips before she returned to her food, and the unfolding conversation. Her ears twitched and she swallowed, before replying to Zen. "You will each be assigned a room here... I would prefer it if you stayed at least a few nights."

Divine opened her to her mouth to reply to Ashen, but was cut off by Diamond. She coudl tell he was serious, but she frowned deeply. "Diamond Mind. Do not dare accuse one of our allies of orchestrating this attack. Not one of our allies would dare throw away a thousand years of peace." Despite having not raised her voice even one decibel, it was clear that Divine was angry. "We have strong ties with each of the three other nations, and to think that you would... and yes, our army is not what it should be. I apologise for that. But do not, I repeat, do not insult Ashen, or any of the other ponies around this table. They all fought hard, as hard as you to protect me, and to protect this country. Speak your mind, certainly, but there are better ways to express distaste towards an idea than to insult the one who had it."

Snorting, Divine, ran a hoof through her mane and sighed. "I apologise... I went overboard. Ashen, as much as I would like to use the army, they are an army of peace... they simply do not have the training or the equipment. I'm afraid to say that they simply aren't capable. Instead, we must look to each other, the ponies around this table, if we are to prevail."

Zen let out a slight chuckle and a responded with a slight grin and larger nod to Divine's answer. "Heh, yeah I can do that," Zen replied from where he hovered, but before he could truly depart there was the interesting to say the least, almost argument between Divine and Diamond. "Well, things seem to be getting a little tense here, suppose I'd best take my leave for the moment and look about the temporary home," he said with a chuckle before flying out into the hallways.

After a few random turns and and just general sightseeing, Zen wasn't flying nearly as fast as he hovered about aimlessly through the hallways. Once he was certain there wasn't anyone still following him, he changed the target of his search to a maid. Finding one proved more than easy, and his inquiry proved to be a simple matter as well.

A few hallways and moments of travel later, with only 2 wrong turns, Zen found the room he was looking for. He hesitated for all of a minute or two before knocking briefly and giving the knob a turn before pushing it open to hover inside. "Hello?" he said while entering to further avoid surprise.

Ashen's ears moved backwards at Diamond's tone. As he listened he had to try not or retreat into his seat. As Divine spoke up, he began to feel slightly better about the situation. He watched her as she defended him from Diamond, glad she did because he knew he wouldn't. As she turned to him and informed him of the situation, all he heard was a softer echo of what had already been said. This was still a bad plan in his eyes, how could they get the experience without the chance? He knew where his loyalty was though. "I understand  it's your decision." He shook his head a little before bowing slightly, trying to take things well. After being verbally assaulted though, even if he did have anything to say, he was going to hold his tongue for fear of any idea he put forward being cut down with less mercy than had been shown to the assassins. He’d stick around until everypony left though, something to do with knightliness and vigilance, and more might have been left to be said.

Nyx nods politely to the maid. "Your assistance aided me greatly." 'Thank you's must not be given, for the imply a debt.... Faerie, thy word is harsh.'
She catches most of the conversation between Ashen and Diamond, muddling it over. "He does have a point though. However strong we may or may not be, we are few. An army is quite a good thing to have, well trained or not."

Diamond froze as Divine began speaking, his ears flopping down at her anger. Her talk down activated his 'programming' as a half-changeling. He was going to say something more, but all that came out of his mouth was a short, gagging noise. He sat back down as his body went limp, and a small "Yes master..." escaped his mouth.

Blade coughed and hoped to gain everyone's attention at the awkwardness that settled over them. "Well, we could be like Robin Hood and just raid those guys, take their stuff to help us out. Maybe learn how they fight by fighting them?" The last sentence coming off more of an uncertain suggestion rather than a sure statement. He was the youngest one at the table and they seemed to be at a disadvantage in every case. His eyes drifted between Divine and the others in order to see what they thought of his idea, not familiar with battle tactics and simply going off the story his mother read to him when he was little.

Divine gave Zen a quick wave goodbye, listening to him leave the room before turning her attention back to the group around her. Her ear twitched and she sighed, shaking her head. “Miss Faerie, I’m afraid that were we to deploy such a force, it would likely scare the populace, not to mention, were they involved in an actual battle, they would likely lose a fair portion of their forces. They are not lives I am willing to throw away for naught.” Divine sighed and rubbed her snout with a hoof. “Listen, all of you. I understand where you are coming from, I understand that you think we need the army… and we might well need one. But the army we need is not here… Instead, I have an idea of where we can get one.”

The maid smiled as Divine spoke, taking Faerie’s hoof and leading her to the table, pulling out her chair and offering her some food. On the other side, Black Rose moved to Ashen’s side and booped his snout, giving him a cheerful smile. With Divine’s speech done, she moved her attention to Ashen as well. “Ashen, you fought bravely, but most of our troops are not as brave, or as well trained. We have become complacent in the thousand years of peace. It would take at least a few months to get them somewhere even close to fighting standard, and even then, they would barely make it against a moderately trained foe.”

Divine heard Blade’s cough and stood, trotting over to him. “Act as Robin Hood you say?” She paused, considering it for a moment. “Yes, well, that’s how I did intend to fight then at first. With this group, I intend to locate our enemies and estimate their strength. A fine plan indeed, thank you Blade.” She smiled at him and gave him a short, but warm hug before moving to back to her seat.

Once dinner had ended, Divine gestured and a maid moved to each of the ponies, bowing and escorting them to their separate rooms. Black Rose took Ashen’s hoof with a giggle and led him away, leaving Divine and Diamond alone. “I’m sorry Diamond… I didn’t mean to exert that on you,” she whispered to him, nuzzling him gently.

Meanwhile, the captured mare yawned and curled up in her bed. Her ear tilted up at the sound of the knock at her door and she glanced up, her eyes widening at the sight of Zen. She almost screamed, before growling and pulling herself up, pointing her hoof at him and shouting. “Valflame!” When nothing happened, she whimpered and pulled herself away from as far as possible.

Faerie nods, her piece said. 'not like I disagree with her, the armies of this land are weak. Still, and army is an army. Even weak ones can be useful, but that's only if you're willing to sacrifice them. Given that the Divine is not, a small force is the better option. I doubt anyone on her current army would jump at the chance to serve if they knew how outmatched they were.' Nyx let's the maid lead her, quite hungry after the fighting and the blood loss. Feeding until content, Nyx is startled when the meeting is called not a close. 'I really hope I didn't zone out and miss something important... That seemed a rather short discussion for something so important.' chalking it up to the situation, Nyx leans on the maid for support as she heads back to the room.

"Not quite the warm welcome I was hoping for," Zen replied with a grin and a bit of a chuckle as he entered the room. The simple notion of retrieving one of the pastry sweets from dinner from the confines of his coat would then spiral into a small series of events with Zen flying back and forth, talking to different ponies, and pilfering a few more of the pastries (all of which was covered in a private RP so as to not clutter the thread up). Ultimately though, it left Zen leaning back in a chair, in front of the door, and on the verge of going to sleep himself.

"That's why we should start getting them the experience,” Ashen wanted to bash the table but instead only lightly tapped it, masking his original intent. “And the training now, as well as proper leadership. There has to be books, stone tablets or something to look to.” He thought he was beginning to sound whiny, and was likely soon due to just repeat himself, so he stopped his argument and stood up. It was probably better for the army to stay near the people anyway, he justified. It was more healthy to focus on the mare excitedly leading him out of the room in a rather excited fashion. "And do you, uh, honestly mean all that stuff you said? I'm still an amateur really." Don't be too eager for success and know your limits were two pieces of advice that came very naturally to him. As they approached the room, he knew it was getting close close to story time, which could go any number of ways...

The colt knew what Ashen wanted to do, the motion remind him of Father when he was controlling his anger about something the colt had done wrong. He was more than happy to see that the argument had stopped instead of escalating even further. Blade was comforted by Divine with a hug and then hugged back, but felt dumb. He had said the obvious and Divine was just nice enough not to tell him that. He knew him bringing up what would pointless and that feeling that way was also dumb despite him still feeling that way. He went off with the others to his room and tried his best to get excited about it instead of thinking about their current situation. They weren't a team and they were supposed to function as one against something that they didn't even know, the only comfort he had was that Divine had faith in them. Of course this amount of thinking would he him keeping a stoic look at some random piece of wall while he followed his maid.

Diamond sat there in his chair, unable to respond to all the ponies in the room. He wanted to respond, to compliment them on their good ideas or criticize them, but he was waiting on an order that would never come. He simply waited, as he knew that Divine would release him when they were alone.

When everyone had left, Diamond felt Divine nuzzle him, shifting his bronze collar, and causing just enough discomfort to cause him to snap back to reality. "Ah! Oh...Divine...I'm sorry about my outburst earlier...It was...necessary, but it could have used better wording and have been less harsh..." He said as he sighed, lowering his head.

Divine flinched as Ashen brought his hoof down, clearly aware of what he had wanted to do instead. "Training would take months at a minimum, and that is time we simply do not have I'm afraid... Sorry Ashen." She gave Blade a gentle boop on the snout before seeing him off to bed. Now alone with Diamond, she sighed and nodded. "It's ok Diamond... I understand that you are worried, but you should try to be a little more tactful... Ok?" She cuddled him and smiled, stroking his mane gently.

Rose giggled and nodded to him gently, leading him towards his room. "Trust me, you are very skilled... at least by comparison to most of the guard, and you have plenty of bravery." She smiled and opened the door for him.

As midnight approached, a group of ponies approached the prisoners room. With the rest of the group either asleep, or otherwise occupied, they snuck forwards unhindered. Kicking the door open, they threw Zen from his post and burst into the room, swords and spears drawn as they lunged for the mare, who let out an ear-piercing shriek of surprise.

Divine rolled over in her bed, yawning as she tried to sleep. Standing up, she rolled her neck and began to walk towards her bathroom. She stopped next to an old chest, picking up a steel spear from it and spinning it gently, smiling nostalgically. Her head snapped to the right as she heard the scream, turning and sprinting to the door and kicking it open, before galloping towards the source of the scream.

Woken with quite a start, Zen landed in a heap from the door being busted open, but he'd de-tangled himself and was on his hooves before they hand the chance to lunge. Bounding off the ground with his rear hooves and drawing his own swords in the same motion, Zen threw himself forward in a spiral. With a flurry of spinning iron, Zen barreled into weapons, deflecting them with metal and flesh while making a few slashes at the attackers himself.

To finish the attack, Zen sprung back to create a little space between the attackers and himself while still remaining in front of the prisoner mage. With such a sudden exertion and the cuts the scored his form, Zen was already breathing hard as he landed on his hind hooves and used his lightly bleeding wings to keep himself upright. "I don't think *pant*, these are welcome guests *pant*," Zen said between his heavy breaths as he eyed his opponents and grimaced as their numbers appeared to continue well into the hallway. "Quick, this way!" Zen said before springing into action again, trying to move himself and the prisoner around behind the door with him in between the enemies and the prisoner. Once there, he'd begin hacking, slashing, stabbing, and generally trying to defensively fight off the veritable horde of enemies while keeping an eye on the door to see what it did.

Blade was quick to fall asleep on the softest bed that he had ever been given, keeping his older sword just under his pillow while keeping the other just on top of dresser. He managed to get a good sleep before the sudden scream woke him up and with his eyes quickly darting around to see the source of the noise as he grabbed ahold of his sword with his magic. After seeing it hadnt came from his room, he eased up and slipped out of the bed and moved outside of his bedroom to see if anyone else had gotten up. His eyes were alert and at attention as his heart beat an extra few beats while he would hear the clanging of metal against metal.

Faerie bids the maid goodnight as they finally arrive at her room. She eases herself into the bed, leaning her bow against the wall beside her. She soon passes into a blissful sleep.
This sleep is interrupted by the scream of terror cutting through the palace. She bolts upright, noting with some satisfaction that her leg appears to have healed enough for combat, and grabs her bow as she leaves the room and heads for the direction of the scream.

The otherwise occupied Ashen was not quite out of earshot of the scream. It was his instinct to grab a weapon and move to investigate, a second wave of attack was certainly possible, even if this was a really bad time for it. The only problem was that he was not quite ready for combat. He didn't need any armour, but it was rather what he was wearing instead. He planted a quick kiss onto Rose and headed towards the noise, the skirt of his black dress fluttering a little as he ran. As he stopped back at his room to retrieve his weapon, he thought about removing the apron and head dress he had on. He spent not more than two moments deliberating, deciding that there wasn’t enough time for anything like that. He was just going to show up dressed as a maid and hope too much attention had not gathered around the area, which was optimistic. He needed the hope though as he didn’t want to die by embarrassment, wanting more than that to be his end.

Divine turned her head as she heard another pony running alongside her, and she smiled. "Ashen, glad you heard the scream too... And I'm glad to hear that you actually came without changing out of your pyjamas. Clearly, you are quite the hero." She smiled again before turning to face the group of enemies before them. The corridor they were in was straight, and quite long, with only a single door leading away to the room where the mage and Zen were. Spinning her spear, she drove it through the armour of the pony ahead of her, the steel head of the spear overreaching his sword. Beside the assassin, his ally swung his sword at Ashen, intent to kill.

At the other end of the corridor, Faerie and Blade would meet, Divine and Ashen just visible beyond the crowd of assassins. The ponies facing them would give them no time to catch up however, one mare swinging at Blade whilst her companion fired his bow at Faerie.

Inside the room, Zen's strategy was quite efficient, effectively forcing the assassins to attack him one at a time. A few of them fell to his blade, leaving five to attack. The first one, a spear-wielder, lunged at him, and more importantly, the mare behind him, who hissed angrily at the assailant.

Zen grit his teeth as the spear closed in on him and the mage behind him. His last attack had both his forelegs too far to the side to intercept the weapon, and if he dodged it, then the spear would no doubt hit the mage. So with grim determination, Zen spread a wing in the weapon's path, letting out a gasp of pain as the weapon plunged into flesh of the appendage before he flared the limb back to redirect it away from them both. Spinning with the flare out of his wing, Zen opted to drive both blades into spear wielder, stepping forward as he did so.

With his one good wing, Zen gave it a powerful flap with his step to send him into another spiral and flourish of blades to swing at any assassins that were unlucky enough to be within reach. Zen would only go into one spiral though, as he halted his progress right at the edge of the door and didn't dare go past it for worry that one might try to slip past him. With that spiral attack complete, Zen would adopt a defensive fighting stance once again, with both blades held up and ready to counter-attack, trying to deflect any incoming blow with one sword before stabbing forward with the other.

Pajamas? Ashen certainly thought it would be better to not rectify that mistake unless needed. Meeting with a blind mare was certainly somewhat fortunate, making him a little less embarrassed. He couldn't afford to be selfish and think of his reputation though as enemies were ahead. His skill was not dampened as he faced off with the assassin. He backstepped, using the space in the corridor to place the sword at range while his spear moved to opponent's weapon, changing course based on any defensive action to land towards the pony's chest. "I was already awake with other things. I'm, uh, surprised to see you handling this yourself. I do what comes naturally with my job, I thought the point of ponies like myself was that you didn't have to get involved." Ashen understood why though, he wouldn't want this happening in his home either, especially twice in one day. If they hurt anypony...As he looked to the other end of the corridor and all the ponies they would have to get through, he jumped a little in shock. It's wasn't at the assassins, but at familiar ponies at the end. Divine knew who he was and she was blind, pretending to be a different pony would be hard.

Blade met Faerie after a small trek towards the sounds and nodded to her as they discovered each other. It was nice to see that he had some back up for this fight. He could not do more due to the sudden interruption of their attackers and with Blade still being a little groggy. He would move back after the swing and point his sword at the mare as he took a slow step back, hoping to get her focused on striking the sword before moving towards him. If she went to pursue the attack then he would move his blade out of the way so that she could hit it and moving in for a quick thrust into her body.

Faerie Fire quickly ducks out of the way of the bowstallion while backing up to where she could shoot at the blade wielding mare. She was also a bit groggy, but paranoia is a great way to bring oneself awake in short time. She fires another two arrows at the swordmare while trying to position herself so that the bowstallion would have to shoot through his companion to hit her.

Diamond lay there in bed, soundly asleep. He'd been sleeping through most of the commotion, as he was an extremely heavy sleeper. He snapped awake, driven by some unseen force as he threw himself out of bed, wearing only his bronze collar as he gripped both his bronze sword and his magic tome, galloping towards the conflict with extreme urgency.
