Perfectly normal days. They're always the ones that end up going completely bonkers aren't they?

That was the case for six ponies when, in the middle of their daily routine, they were confronted by a letter appearing in a flash of light, and being very pushy if they tried to ignore it.

Imagine how you use a clock. You use it to keep track of time, to know when you should do things, when certain things should happen and how to know when it's time to take food out of the oven as opposed to burning your entire house down because you really wanted a roast dinner.

We use clocks to tell time. What if there was a clock that controlled time?

Okay, that's a terrible metaphor because it kinda doesn't look like a clock, but there are gears everywhere and it ticks a lot and if you want I could make it go ding.

How do I ramble like this? Why do I write down everything I think? Why am I still doing it? Why are you reading this? Potatoes. See, I bet you weren't even paying attention to that!

Oh right! Sorry! If you're reading this I need your help; some blasted stallion with a silly accent and a stupid hat managed to get inside my Clocktower! I don't know how this happened but if you're reading this well by the time you look away I'm afraid you'll find that you've been pulled into the Clocktower yourselves so if you were in the shower I apologise in advance.

Back to the point; this little ingrate stole my Time Gem, which is the core of the entire Clocktower; the Clocktower you see houses the greatest invention ever invented by the motivation to invent things, with it I can use the dimension you will now be standing in as sort of a run off for Equestria's many time paradoxes and attempted rewrites of history by stupid unicorns who think that going back in time to write their names on Celestia's statue when the concrete is wet won't summon meteor storms to kill us all.

It could happen I tell you!!!

Okay okay okay, look, to make a long story short; when you look away from this letter you will be in my Clocktower and I'll be able to send you through time. You MUST follow that thief and recover the Time Gem or history as we know it could be bent into a delicious pretzel with sprinkles of Armageddon!

Or, he might just pull silly faces in historical pictures but I will NOT take that risk.

Sincerely, Starswirl The Bearded.

PS- Please don't sue for kidnapping, it's extremely hard to find a lawyer in a land of paradoxes that speaks sense.

Diamond awoke to find a letter floating in front of his face. He decided that it was a letter from his father, and could wait until later. He turned his head to find a mare, he didn't remember her name, sleeping next to him. Such is the life of a halfling. He carefully swung out of bed and put on his blue silk jacket and threw on his 'Wizard' hat. He then opened the letter.

Diamond focused heavily on the letter, and read all the way through it. "Star Swirled the Bearded? Does  dad think I'm stupid or something? And why does this look like the ramblings of-" Diamond was abruptly cut off when he heard a sound, one like a massive gear moving. He looked up from the letter and saw he wasn't in the bedroom anymore. "Oh boy... It's going to be one of those days, isn't it."

A lone thestral sat in a coffee shop with a cup of coffee next to him. Most ponies would have stared at the thestral seeing as they are normally ponies of the night and aren't seen during the day very much. Not much was very interesting about the thestral...Well other than the fact he was asleep that is. This gray thestral was asleep and had a cup of coffee next to him.

That wouldn't last for long when a letter appeared over his head. Of course the thestral didn't notice it because he was asleep and all that. The letter then became rather...pushy...however the hell a letter is suppose to be that. The thestral lurched upwards and stared at the letter with a blank expression. He rubbed the sleepiness away from his eyes and grabbed his cup of coffee, sipping it as he read through the letter.

He almost did a spit-take when he finish. "Haha. What?" He said, reread-...He fell on the ground when he realized he wasn't sitting on his chair in the coffee shop anymore. "Ooof!" He dropped the letter and looked at the ground he now sat on. "Well...Starswirl The Bearded...The one who created time travel spells...I'm here now...Well at least I still have my coffee." He brought his cup of coffee closer to him so he can sip it. He then looked up to see if he could spot the unicorn himself. Time travel? He's going to send me through time...I'm going through time...again...But only this time it's to save Equestria...Oh Luna please don't let me get stuck in a different time period again. He thought as he looked around the clocktower, still trying to find Starswirl.

The darkness was absolute. And then a brief flash of light exposed the inside of a dank cave, with water dripping steadily in small increments from a myriad of stalactites. As quickly as the surroundings had been exposed, they fell back into shadow when the light disappeared with the end of the flash. But then a flame burst into existence in the palm of a dragon's solitary hand, and the other held the new note up as he read it.

Dezulaar's eyes danced across the paper, reading it through all the way. Halfway through, however, he was interrupted by a voice in his head.

Fos los daar? Is this what the ponies call toilet paper?

Nid. Dezulaar thought back. This has words on it. It is just regular paper.

Zu'u koraav. Why is it talking about Starswirl the Bearded?

I do not know. I do not recall Starswirl having such a... strange personality.

Los nii zurun? You did not know about this Clocktower or Time Gem either.

Fair enough. But I suspect a trick. Aanwo nok. He clutched his staff closer to himself as he extinguished the flames in his hand and tucked the piece of paper into his ragged robe with the other blank papers and pen. Or does this not ring of falsehoods to you?

Wo vis saag? I have seen many strange things in my time. More than you have. This is not among the strangest.

Nonetheless... He blinked. It became slowly clear to him that he was no longer in his quiet, dark, lonely cave, but rather on the inside of what looked like...

Urah angaar.

"A clock tower." Dezulaar murmured, slowly. "So you were right." He stood up tall and surveyed the area, wondering if anyone else had been pulled into this as well. If they had been, he hoped they would not be too startled by the appearance of a - albeit only just somewhat taller than a pony - red and orange dragon in a tattered robe. Just in case, however, he kept his staff at the ready.

Follow That Paradox! Heartop2_zps56d14bf2

Burst through the bushes in a full blown gallop. Looking back as he ran. "Just a little further." she mumbled mostly to himself as the tree's behind him bent under the massive weight of the Hydra that chased after the bright raspberry red stallion. It's roar resounding throughout the forest. Looking foreword with his sky blue colored eyes as his gallop went as fast as he could muster, he was capable of keeping ahead of the massive Hydra. He soon smirked as he had arrived at his destination. He skidded to a halt and turned to face the Hydra.

There he was with his back against a tree near a massive hill. The Hydra stopped and looked at his all four of it's head's stared right into the eyes of the pony. The pony stared right back and narrowed his eyes and scrapped a hoof against the ground as if he were prepping to charge. The hydra narrowed it's eyes in the same way and pulled it's head's back preparing the same thing. For the moment everything went dead silent as if they were waiting for something to give them the cue.

A moment passed and suddenly a toad croaked and at that very moment the Hydra and the pony began to charge. Though when this had happened a letter had suddenly appeared before the stallion causing him to suddenly halt and look at the envelope. "Mail?" The hydra was still charging at him as the stallion was having more interest with the envelope than the hydra. As it came closer it roared and the stallion spoke. "Quiet you, I have a letter." and his horn and facial markings glowed as vines that were near him suddenly snapped. The hydra in full charge it's head stretching foreword aiming to bite at him, when suddenly....

The stallion started to walk away as he read the letter and just where he stood, several massive boulders just rolled down the hill and crashed full force into the hydra's head, one for each head. He began to read the letter at the hydra fell onto it's side unconscious from the boulder's to the craniums.

He never really got a letter, so when one did appear it captured his attention quickly. He continued to walk as he read the letter, unaware of the changes that had been occurring around him when he had suddenly appeared in the destination that the letter said he would appear in. After finishing the letter he looked at the envelope and then back to the letter. "Starswirl the bearded?" A few questions had popped into his mind after he finished the letter, but that quickly disappeared when it finally registered to him that he was not where he was before. His eyes widening to the sights before him. His ears twitching to the sound's he heard, the gear's clicking and the energy flow he felt in this area, it was all astonishing. "W-where am I?" He stated to himself as he was trying to piece things together.

Fine Fantasy carefully walked through the halls of the castle. She was being escorted by two guards, because even though she'd spent several months in this castle, most of it had been spent in the guest room she occupied, or in a nearby, ginormous library. The guards had said Princess Celestia was waiting for her in her guest room. She wasn't sure why. Perhaps Celestia didn't want her exposed to uppity noble ponies who would undoubtedly wonder what a commoner pony like her was doing in the castle.

During the walk, which seemed to be rather long, or slow... In fact, it seemed to be both. Like the guards were taking their time through longer routes. Fantasy figured they themselves didn't know the fastest way to certain places in the castle, which she found understandable. This place in terms of size and complexity could compete with the actual maze right outside the throne room.

Anyway, what had the original point be- oh, right. During the walk, Fantasy's mind couldn't help but wander quite a bit, missing many of the wonderful works of art hanging on the walls and painted on the ceiling. Her mind mostly hovered around what Celestia might want to say. Occasionally, and she kept these thoughts to a minimum, she thought Celestia might have bad news for her when she reached her guest room. But these thoughts didn't last long; Fantasy dismissed them as silly. Heh, yeah. Silly. Fantasy lightly chuckled to herself again while she walked between the two stoic guards.

They did reach Fantasy's guest room soon enough. The guards left her sides and stationed themselves right outside the door, which Fantasy opened, and entered her guest room. She was slightly unnerved. The room wasn't very different at all. The only two differences were the addition of a large white alicorn princess and a royal purple pillow in the middle of the floor. The unnerved feeling came from the situation itself. Celestia taking time out of her day to meet Fantasy in her guest room, and bringing a comfy pillow to sit on. She looked like she wanted to talk to her about something. Fantasy for the most part decided to ignore the look of pity(?) compassion concern in her eyes.

She was finding it increasingly difficult to deny the possibility of that type of bad news. If she thought about it too much, it'd come true. Celestia was probably scared. Concerned about Equestria's next major disaster, whatever it happened to be this time. Now, Fantasy didn't feel guilty about worrying with someone about a bad thing happening. This was Equestria. Every disaster with a baddy ended with the defeat of evil usually via harmony rainbow. So while Celestia was probably gonna warn her about some danger that meant she had to stay inside, or possibly in a safer spot until further notice, Fantasy could rest assured things would turn out alright.

Yep. Shut up, brain. You pessimist.

With a small, somewhat forced, friendly smile, Fantasy took a seat on the purple pillow in front of Celestia. The room was silent for a rather long minute before Celestia finally spoke. "Fantasy." Celestia said. "Let me begin with this: have you made any friends while you were here?"

Fantasy blinked twice. That's... a rather concerning question. Pessimist. "Um... no." Fantasy admitted, stroking her ponytail with her hoof. "Er, well, I've made an acquaintance or two, but I've tried to keep relatively distant, since, well, y'know..." Stroking and petting intensified, and Fantasy blushed slightly.

"I see." Celestia said. "And what about all the reading you've been doing? Fiction, history, spellbooks, creatures in Equestria, biographies and autobiographies. You've crammed your head with Equestrian knowledge."

Fantasy giggled. "Yeah, I probably know more about Equestria than America by now!" She chuckled again, this time noticeably nervous. Or rather, mildly embarrassed. "But yeah, it's good material for fanfiction. Most of it probably won't ever appear in the show, because who would go into such detail for a kids show? Granted, the writers know the older audience usually likes more depth, but that's kinda a lot of detail to cram into a kids show." Another nervous chuckle.

Celestia merely "Hm"d thoughtfully.

She opened her mouth to speak, but before any sound came out a scroll popped into existence right in Fantasy's face, bouncing off her muzzle and landing on the rugged floor. She picked it up in her magic, then remembered her manners and looked at Celestia almost expectantly.

"I think it's for you." Celestia said to her.

Well, okay then. That was enough for Fantasy. She unrolled and read the scroll, her eyes widening and her eyebrows furrowing in confusion and amazement. Starswirl the Bearded?! Clocktower? Time Gem? Silly pony with a silly hat? The he-

Oh bucker.

"Okay, this may be a big interruption, but as soon as I look away from this letter, I'm gonna be teleported into a clocktower that apparently controls time. Created by Starswirl the Bearded." Celestia's jaw hung. "So... was there a point to this meeting?" Fantasy asked, not taking her eyes from the letter. "I mean, it was nice and all, but you seemed to have another reason for this. An important one. Was there?"

Celestia closed her mouth, and looked at Fantasy for a moment. Unfortunately, Fantasy made the mistake of trying to look up at Celestia, and in the next second found herself inside a giant clocktower. As soon as she realized this, her lips pursed in frustration. "Faust dammit!"

Celestia looked at the spot Fantasy had previously been, and sighed. She should have just said it. Fantasy clearly suspected already, even if the young pony didn't want to admit it to herself. Now, for the entirety of whatever journey she'd be forced into, she'd have that thought weighing on her mind.

In the city of Cloudsdale, one pegasus mare sat on a cloudy park bench. Of course asking the question of whether the park or the bench was cloudy was irrelevant in a city like Cloudsdale. But if you have not been paying attention because that butterfly was just SO pretty, both the park and the park bench are cloudy. Makes one wonder its even possible to grow a garden in the place like that. Most likely not. Unless it’s a cloud garden. But how does one garden clouds? Why would one need to when there is a whole factory for it? Cloudsdale just boggles me.

Oh but where was I? Yes, the mare. She was yellow, with-oh do I even need to explain anymore? It’s Sunshine. How much more do you want? You wanna know what she looks like anyway? Yellow body. Blue and pink mane. Same colors for the tail. Blue eyes. Sun cutie mark. Mechanical right wing. There. Done. For the one person and their drunk uncle who does not know what she looks like, I spelled it out for you. Now I guess you wanna know what she’s doing on that bench. Fine, I’ll tell you.

Sunshine was sitting on the cloudy bench in the cloudy park in the very high up cloudy city. She was, well to put it simply, bored. She had spent the last week in this place. While the first few days were filled with exploring and fun, things went downhill after she toured the weather factory and ran out of things to do. Sunny was supposed to be looking for signs of a dimensional anomaly, but after looking days, she got fed up. There was no anomaly, or if there was, it had fixed itself.

It was then that her partner started to speak up on their comlinks.”Hey Sunny, I finally found an anomaly for you to investigate. It’s small but really close to your location.”

Sunshine perked up. “Finally, something to do. I was about ready to leave this place.” She looked around. “Ehh… Where is it?” Looking down, she found a scroll. “Oh, is this it?”

“Yep,” came the reply. “Though be careful. That’s a temporal anomaly.”

“Well it does look a little old fashioned. How far back do you think this thing came from?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a thousand years. Everything seems to happen a thousand years ago. You think its a message?”

Sunny picked up the scroll and read it. “Its a summons from Starswirl the Bearded. Looks like I’m going on another mission. I’ll catch you later.” She looked away from the scroll, and just like it stated, she was in the clocktower. “Fantastic. What a marvel of magic.”

The group had all appeared standing on what appeared to be an enormous gear, that was thankfully laid flat so they could use it was a floor and was slowly ticking; it's jerky movements were hard to not trip up on at first until they accepted that they would have to deal with it and moved with the gear.

"Hello down there!" The shout came from above them; they could see a gigantic, swinging golden pendulum, just like one would see in an old fashioned grandfather clock, with a stallion in a very brightly decorated cloak clinging to it for dear life. "Be down in just a tick, mostly because I won't have a choice! If someone has a pillow that would be most appreciated!"

Daar los zurun.

"What hasn't been strange so far?" Dezulaar muttered. He called up to the stallion swinging above, "I will be there. Fear not." He shrugged off his coat, letting it fall to the floor of the gear, and a moment later he stumbled and almost fell when the gear jerked slightly to the side. He promptly proceeded to actually fall when it ticked again.

Fos bo nau? How are you falling for this?

Very funny. Now on all fours, Dezulaar stretched out his wings and propelled himself upwards, bringing him up to the stallion's side. "Hang on." He said, as he took a gentle hold of the stallion and, hoping he wouldn't try to resist or anything that could make him lose his grip, lowered him gently to the floor of the gear and deposited him there.

He sighed in relief, though still beating his wings to keep himself in the air above the gear as he retrieved his cloak. "You are safe now." He glanced around. "Relatively speaking."

Star almost spilled his cup of coffee when the gear ticked. He looked down at the gear he sat on before looking up to see Starswirl. A smile spread across his face, but that quickly faded away when he almost spilled his coffee again. "Gah. Grr. Curse this ticking." He muttered, looking at the others for a moment or two before unfurling his wings, dropping sunglasses when they were spread out. He reached for the glasses and put them on, finding that easier than holding them. He then took to a low hover.

Star now turned to examine the others that were dragged here, drinking his coffee in the process. A dragon, two unicorns, one pegasus, and a unicorn. He looked towards Starswirl who had just been brought down from the...uh...pendulum. The thestral moved his cup away from his muzzle and coughed. "Well..now that your down, mind shining some light on how bad this pony with a, and I quote, silly accent and a stupid hat has screwed up? And oh! We...wont get stuck in a different time period...right?" He asked, glancing around a bit to look at the others some more and the clocktower.

"Oh...My lord. That was Star Swirled the Bearded..." Diamond sat there, stunned for a moment. Then he realized that A) He was surrounded by the most rag-tag group of ponies (and a dragon) ever assembled. B) He was inside a clock tower and standing on a gear. "Well then, I assume the time for introductions has begun? I'm Diamond Mind, pleased to meet all of you. And if nopony minds me asking, who thought it would be a good idea to put us on a massive, moving gear?" Diamond watched the dragon get Star Swirled down from the pendulum.

"That answers my question."
